Adapting Swann Recievers to X10

A friend gave me a swann reciever ...is there away to connect a standard coaxial cable to it?, the antenna output is tiny, do they make adaptors for antenna output from say 3/8 to standard coaxial cable?

Do you have any model number on the unit or the FCC ID number on a label?
You can get many different adapters for those small connectors.
I believe the stubby antenna usually suppied with the receiver. Screwed directly on to the connector.

9 times out of ten, they have an "SMA" connector.  That is what it looks like from the picture.

Adapters and 2.4 GHz antennas are abundantly available.  My vendor of choice is Ebay...   ;)

I would also say it looks like an SMA and I found a Swann Catalog with a high gain antenna accessory listed. It used a SMA adapter for the receiver to the N connector of the antenna.

You may even find replacement antennas that would screw directly into the connector. To receive the 2.4GHz signals from the cameras.

I have seen WiFi antennas using a RPSMA connector where the center pin is male on the chassis and female on the cable.

Maybe someone can verify the Swann Cameras use the same channel frequencies as the X10 ones do. It is possible they don't use the same frequencies in the 2.4GHz band.

OK I have dumb question. What is the other end of the coax to be connected to? Are you trying to remote the antenna? or are you trying to connect a camera?

Good point dave w.

The SMA connector should be the receiving antenna for the cameras RF signals.
I believe I saw the other end of that receiver and it had RCA Video and Sound connectors. Along with a wall wart power supply connector.

It can also be noted that in the higher, microwave frequencies (such as the 2.4 GHz used in this receiver) any benefit from remoting the antenna will be negated by the loss in the cable length...   B:(

I remember several posts that listed the Swann frequencies.  I believe one or more of them are the same as X10 - but not all.

Yes the original antenna shown in the sales page is a rubber ducky in the connector.

thanks folks found parts on ebay yes I entend to have say 100 ft of coaxial but until the parts come I ordered a antenna from swann I have a long 100 ft of RCA have good signal but the recievers outside just under roof...the x10 recievers did not get a signal where the swann did..

which frequencies are the same from swanns reciever and x10 cams

X10 cameras and Video Senders use the following frequencies:
Channel A: 2.411 GHz
Channel B : 2.434 GHz
Channel C: 2.453 GHz
Channel D: 2.473 GHz

this is another wireless system they claim to have a 330 ft wireless distance are these frequencies the same? 1 is GHz other MHz do the numbers have to be exact?

Operating Frequency:
2414MHz;
2432MHz;
2450MHz;
2468MHz

None of them are the same.
A 3 MHz difference
B 2 MHz difference
C 3 MHz difference
D 5 MHz difference

B looks the closest and may work. Though even 2 MHz may give audio or video problems.
A and C would be next.
D I doubt.
