I thought I saw somewhere that it is not.  No use in buying it if it isn't.

I want to be able to control the living-room-situated cable box from a bedroom with the remote extender, as well as be able to use the cable box remote the normal way when in the living room.

I just checked the X10 Site and the Remote Extender should work.   I suspect the cable box's regular remote would continue to work as it does now.

I use a wireless video sender with the built-in remote extender on my Scientific Atlanta cable box.
It works fine for me.   ;)

I would presume that the Remote Extender will work with any manufactures cable box.

Should as long as the cable box uses IR and not RF.
I have seen some that use RF so you can use them in other rooms.
Though if it worked in other rooms you would not need the extender.  ;D

One point is the small pyramid shaped receiver has to be in line site of the cable boxes IR receiver.
The RX569 optional IR style emitter on a cable is not part of the kit and is an added item to purchase. If you want to hide the receiver maybe in a TV cabinet.
