1132cu upgrade?
« on: November 23, 2010, 04:36:12 AM »

I am running an X10 system with Smarthome software. My 1132CU (USB) seems to be failing after about 5 years of working fairly well. My sensors and palmpads are working, but the automatic light control programmed into the 1132CU no longer works.

I have a few outlets that never seemed to accept x10 signals though I have tried extenders and bridge, phase couplers, etc. I have about a 4,000 sqft home.

has the x10 1132CU a newer replacement? Should I replace/upgrade software and 1132CU?

Are you running the Manager Essentials or with the added features of Manager Plus?
Since Smarthome has labeled the 1132CU and Manager Software as Legacy and has not even corrected for the new Daylight Saving Times.
We did a workaround for the Daylight Saving thing. The software is also listed as not working with Vista and I would guess Widows 7 also. Again called Legacy.
I use to use a 1132CU myself and it still is doing power line monitoring when I do my X10 experiments.
I would say not to replace the 1132CU with a replacement 1132CU.
Smarthome really doesn't have an X10 controller any more. Just some Insteon controllers that at present also can support X10 in most functions.
The 1132CU is still on the sales page.

Maybe the X10 AHP setup with the CM15A controller not the lower cost AHP with CM19A Interface. May do what you want to do.
Are your modules X10 models or Smarthome X10 modules? The X10 and Smarthome modules handle dim commands differently and that is why I am asking.

As for your bad reception areas. That is more like signal problems. Like signal suckers and noise makers. That probably would not change between the 1132CU and the CM15A. We have many troubleshooting threads on such things.

I think that I will upgrade to the ISY99.I did clear and reprogram the 1132, but think the ISY is the way to go.

Your opinion??

Thanks and 1132 problem solved!

The ISY99i is Insteon and does X10 OK.
I have an ISY99i doing a mix of X10 and Insteon devices. I also have many of the optional software modules.

It can do X10 without the optional software A10/X10 module. It just allows you to add X10 devices to the My Lighting Tree and do a few things easier.

Also if you opt for the standard version and not the pro. It also can be added by purchasing, at a later date, the Plus Module. Same for Weatherbug and IR support. With the optional IR board added to the ISY99is case and a IR support module purchase.

I believe I saw you post over on the Smarthome Forums and they should have more data for you.
