Ok when I use the app from my PC as a test or from my phone, it activates the door properly but it also "shorts" out my opener on the wall and resets the clock, etc on it. I have the universal set to momentary and spliced in between the opener and the on wall button....

Your opener has a digital display. Not a simple push button to open and close it?
We have seen this before. The power and data are sent over the wires from the opener to the display.
The Universal Module is shorting out the power to the display and resetting it.
What manufacturer and model opener do you have?
We may have some tips when we know the model opener.

It is a Chamberlin, yes digital display for the wall opener.

If you have multiple buttons on your GDO wall switch, then you have a digital data link between the opener and the wall switch, so you can not short across the wires to control the GDO any more. I have same problem with a new Linear brand opener I installed a couple years ago. About the only way around it is to either "hack" your wall switch so the Universal Module can short across the actual OPEN/CLOSE button contacts inside the wall unit. Or hack an extra wireless remote unit, or call Chamberlin to see if they offer a solution.

I believe others have hacked a remote.
I vaguely remember the Chamberland made a auxiliary wired in control switch assembly. That others have hacked for the Universal Module.

I'm curious, I've never seen a garage door opener with a digital display. I can't imagine any reason why a door opener would need one. What is it there for?

Maybe it says: OPEN, CLOSED.   

I just checked the Chamberlain web site and they do not show anything with a graphic disply. Maybe the OP is confused about "digital display". But I think any GDO with multiple buttons on the wall switch control (O/C, "Vacation Mode", Light, etc) AND made to be a retro fit, makes the old two wire line from door bell button to lifter unit, a serial link. My Linear unit had clear instructions that you could not use the old "door bell" button if retrofitting.

We have had other users with a digital display and the UM506 shorting out the power supply.

Chamberlain Models are in the DIY product line of openers.

The Liftmaster Models are in the professionally installed line of openers.
Some models do have a digital display. With clock, temperature {C&F}, motion sensor for lights, remote setup and lockouts.

The only thoughts I have for this situation.
Is get an accessory remote or accessory button control unit. Compatible with your model opener.
Then hack it to use the UM506 to simulate the button being pushed.

So the display on the Liftmaster shows time and temperature.  Amazing...niether of those seem to be useful info for opening a door. Odd.

Though the motion sensor light control, adding and removing remotes more easily and locking out remotes when you are away. Could be useful to some.

The only features that has that my old Craftsman doesn't, is the motion sensing, and the clock. To lock out remotes when away, you just push a button, same as that one.
