Airsight Camera??
« on: November 19, 2011, 07:41:59 PM »

Just saw this camera and thought I would ask if anyone has one and what they think. Seems like a good deal 99 bucks but the .3 MP isn't really that impressive but 2 for 200 bucks would basically cover the main inside areas of my house. But as usual with x10 it's usually the software that DOESN'T Work  B:( So I thought I better check first. Thanks and looking forward to your feedback!  :)%

Since it was just announced today.
No one would have one yet unless they where Beta tester and didn't have an NDA to prevent spilling the beans.
Others may have the same items under a different brand name.

Tom

This camera looks just like the Foscam.

I have one of these and really like it.  I use an app for the iphone that works well and you can type the ip in the address bar of the web browser to get a picture also.

Thanks for the link.   I found reading thru all the user comments on the Foscam website quite enlightening.

It seems if you want to use this camera from outside your home, you need to know how to successfully deal with (1) a dynamic IP address (most people don't have a static IP address from their ISP) and (2) port forwarding on your router.

How difficult is this to set up?

It is pretty easy to setup if I remember.  It has been awhile.  Just follow the instructions that comes with it.  Connect an ethernet cable between it and your router to do the intial setup.
If you have problems, just send me an email.

Walt2 is correct.  You will need to setup a dynamic IP address  and  port forwarding on your router.
You will have to do that with any IP camera you buy.

From their website:
"Try a free trial of DynDNS Pro — a great opportunity for users to test out one of our most popular services. You may keep one hostname free of charge for trying Pro."
http://dyn.com/dns/dyndns-pro-free-trial/

This site will help you with port forwarding:
http://portforward.com/

The picture is not bad and the IRs work great for night vision.

Could someone explain why you need a dynamic opposed to a static IP address for this camera, I have AT&T DSL account wondering if they even support a dynamic IPS.  ???   :-\

Tom,

I have AT&T with DSL and I use a dynamic IP.

This page will explain the difference between the two in more detail.

Also AT&T will charge you for a static IP.  You can use a dynamic IP free.

Both the Users Manual and Quick Setup Guide are now available from the manuals page for the Airsight.

I know it's not considered water proof but just wondering if it can get wet and still function seems like they suggest it can be placed outside in the x10 description. Thanks probably will pick one up next month seems really nice from what you guys have reported.
