AirSight ActiveX freezing pc
« on: December 29, 2011, 10:09:03 PM »

I have the Airsight Wireless IP Camera, got it for xmas, and the problem I'm having is that the ActiveX for IE
is freezing the pc. Once I hit the webpage and go into the IE page with ActiveX the pc loads the page, and after about say 15 seconds the pc freezes. Only fix is to reboot the pc and start over. If I go to the camera via FireFox or via the VLC it works fine but you do not get all the options that you are supposed to get via ActiveX.

PC is  Win7 Pro SP2, 64bit, 4Gb Ram, IE9, latest updates. IP Camera tool loaded also the AppInstall software installed
Video card is an Nvidia NVS 3100M w/ 512mb Ram

Any suggestions?
I have looked for any updated software but found nothing so far.

I dont use the Airsight but I use the Foscam which is almost the same thing and I had these issues.  Look into Blue Iris you should find it here in the third party apps I started using that and the camera capabilities are amazing.  IT is 100x that of the firmware application.  The software is very inexpensive and it can run up to 64 cams.  It even comes with a free trial of I believe (30 days) give it a shot I bet you will love it.

I get the PC hard freeze with the AirSight Active X also.  Win 7-64 bit, IE-9.  It's a real hard freeze with no mouse, keyboard or hard disk activity. Have to use the reset switch on the PC to reboot.  Freezes on two different computers.  Haven't figured out the pattern, but seems to occur when I'm changing between menu items.

this is a user-supported forum. X10 reps only visit the forum very rarely, so you're not likely to get any help directly from X10 by posting here. Nearly everyone here is a user, just like you. I suggest you contact X10's support directly, or post a message for them on their Facebook page.

I have this freeze up on my laptop. It does not freeze in safe mode so I think that means there is some conflict in programs loading in the background but I have not investigated further yet.

The ActiveX control in the IP camera's software conflicts with the computer's audio software.
Close Internet Explorer.
Right click the audio speaker icon on the lower right of the screen.
Click on Playback Devices.
Disable all playback devices temporarily.
ClickOK.
Open IE.
Now you can safely use your camera without computer freeze.
Now you can reenable the audio devices.
Unfortunately you cannot get audio from the camera, but all else seems OK and no freeze.
Hopefully the camera manufacturer will rewrite the ActiveX software to be compatible soon.
Won't hold my breath.
My computer audio uses"IDT High Definition Audio CODEC".
Computers with other audio software may not have a conflict.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Posted above on Foscam forum.
"TheUberOverLord" in this forum solved my problem.
Just use  IE 32 bit and problem solved.
32 Bit available by hitting Start,All Programs,Internet Explorer,(Not 32 bit).
Just use this version for everything and works fine.
