what i want to do is have a second keypad in my bedroom to arm/disarming my SC1200 system and possibly use it to see which zones are open etc. can a second SC1200 console do this or any other 3rd party hardware/hack?

Simple answer is No.
There is no remote keypad, and a hack (i.e. interfacing a keypad to an extra SecuriLink keyfob) would be full of problems. X10s 3rd party "SkyLink" systems does have RF keypads available.

It should be noted that the skylink systems aren't compatible with X10 systems.
The Skylink RF keypads won't work with the SC1200
