Has anyone modified DOOR/WINDOW module for another purpose?

What I would like to do is find out how to modify one of these modules so my current wired ADT security system could trigger my new Securi-Link System. I got my system yesterday and really like how easy it was to program so far.

Since my whole house was pre-wired when I bought it and I have had ADT forever, I want to replace calling ADT by triggering my new Securi-Link System. Thus eliminating/firing ADT and their increasing bills.

Would the wires that normally triggered a phone call to ADT be enough power to trigger/activate a DOOR/WINDOW module? It would seem so but I don't know for sure.

Any suggestions or comments are welcomed. Has anyone else done something like this before?

Inputs to the DSxx sensor is simple open/close across the terminals. Closed circuit is "no alarm" and when the circuit opens the sensor will trigger.

If the ADT provides a contact closure upon alarm, you could use that closure through a reversing relay to trigger the DSxx. If you need help wiring a reversing relay, we can help, but you need to find out what is availabe from the ADT first. How is the ADT horn triggered? Is it a DC voltage fed to the horn? The ADT installation manual will help.

Thanks,
I will dig into it this weekend and post my findings.
I guess whatever triggers the horn would work.

If you have the DS10A just substitute your dry contact for the included magnetic switch.

If you have the DS12A it has two zones. The magnetic switch on it main board and a second zone connected to a terminal block on the bottom edge. Just wire your dry contact to the terminal block and register the external zone. That is what I did with mine as the internal ones where impossible for me to align when mounted on the door frame and I used an externally wired one.

I have seen a different uses for a DS10A {DS12A should also work OK}. Like a water leak sensor or using a current sensing module to flag your dryer went Off.

I have the DS10A module. It has a jumper that can be removed for a wired magnet. I'd like to insert a photo of the panel but don't know how ?

... so I will try and describe what I discovered in the security panel.

I have a yellow and green wire going to the same terminal labeled +BELL as well as a red and black wire going to a different terminal labeled BELL - these wires go to the siren horn on my current security system. The voltage rating written on the AC terminals are as follows ... 16V AC 50/60Hz 2.5A MAX

Next here is the configuration of the Phone connection

RED-goes to      A RING
GREEN-goes to  B TIP
GREY-goes to    C R-1
BROWN-goes to D R-2
EGND-Heavy Ground wire

Hope this will get the ball rolling with a solution.

Regards,
Bob

DS10A does not have an internal jumper. The DS10A has an external wire to its magnetic switch.

The terminal block you are referring to is for the telephone lines.
It appears the ADT has a RJ31 connection where it can seize the phone line and disconnect the houses telephones. For an emergency alarm.
Do you know if that is a feature of the ADT panel?
I don't think any of those terminals will be usefull for what you want to do.

I do have the DS12A module and yes what you stated is true. When an alarm event occures the phone is seized.

However, I want to discontinue ADT's service and use my SecuriLink Sytem instead. I would just would like my currently wired system to be integrated into my new system since the house wiring is already installed to all of the windows and doors.

I was just wondering what a trigger from the old system to the new could be? Thinking to use a wireless Window/Door module for the connection? What are your thoughts?

Oh and how can I post a picture?

Bob

Was there any other outputs in the ADT console like a auxiliary contact set or a switched voltage maybe for an external siren?
An external switched voltage could activate a relay and trigger the Door Window Sensor.

You may have to trace the ADT phone wire back to the RJ31X jack it is connected to and unplug it there. The jack has a feature where when nothing is plugged in. It connets the house phones to the incoming phone lines and they work properly.

The SC1200 Console also has two Normally Closed Hard Wired Zones 31-32. That could be used if needed. Though I have not seen anyone here using them.

Why would I want to use one of the SC1200 Console two Normally Closed Hard Wired Zones 31-32?

What I need to find is a normally closed circuit on the ADT system where I can connect my module ... right?
So that when it trips open circuit ... that would set off the Window/Door module.

Ok ... I replaced the reed switch with a couple of wires and as long as they are connected the module sounds no alarm. When the circuit is broken the alarm is engaged. No magnet is needed now.

Now all I have to do is find a closed circuit that opens when my ADT alarm is activated. Any ideas, comment or thoughts?

Well that is one way to go on a DS12A.
Would have been much simpler with the lower terminal block for the second zone. It has a jumper on it now to keep it in the closed position.
No magnet has to be next to the internal switch if you only register the second zone.

I only mentioned zones 31-32 in case the console is close to the old ADT or you end up with RF reception issues.

If you can't find a Normally Closed contact that opens on an alarm. You maybe able to use a relay if it has a voltage that is switched On for maybe an external siren. The ELK 912 is a 12 volt DC one on a nice PCB with screw terminals and a diode on the relay coil to protect the alarms output circuit. The ELK 912B is one that can do 12 or 24 volts DC.

Brian,

Do you have any other ideas on what I should look for next?

Pictures are worth a 1000 words.
I found the DSC PC1555 panel Installer Manual on line. As that is the system ADT used.
ELK 912 relay module that is designed for alarm panels and has a protective diode on the relay coil to protect the bell circuit.
912 + Input to Bell + on the alarm board.
912 - Input to Bell - on the alarm board.
912 Common and NC terminals to the DS12A normally closed zone input.
When the console is triggered. The Bell Outputs go On and activate your external sounders if you have any and the 912.
The 912 opens the NC contacts and the DS12A triggers the SC1200.
Many vendors carry ELK products.
One is Smarthome and the users manual for the 912 is on their sales page if you have any questions.

Brian,

Obviously, you know what you are talking about.

I on the other hand have not got a clue to what you are suggesting?

Are you saying I should buy the relay you mentioned or do you mean that after looking at the installation manual, you found online (which I also have the PDF), there is a relay in there already that could help me. The installation guide is greek to me ... could you suggest the page I should be consulting for the information I seek?

If I am supposed to buy the relay you mentioned where does it connect to my current DSC PC 1555 panel?

Thanks,
Bob
