ws12a Extended DIM Support?
« on: July 27, 2012, 08:07:36 PM »

Hello,

Does the ws12a support the extended DIM command for sending percentages? Like Dim to 50?  If not, does anyone know how many DIM levels it house so I can make a custom script to dim it to a set percent?

Thank you.

Is the WS12A Soft Start, where it ramps On and Off?
If it is Soft Start it should use Extended Dim commands.

Soft Start WS12A is on B3. Old before soft start is on B4.
Monitored by a Smarthome 1132CU Interface.

Hello,

Right my module soft starts but I wanted an easier way to dim it to 50% or 25%.  I have seen some insteon where you can format an x10 command with a percent value and the module understands it.

Didn't know if these x10 switches can do that and it so what would the format be?

The SDK  has documentation for sending Dim commands in a percentage.
an example it shows to dim A3 to 75% is:
Code: [Select]
sendplc, a3 dim 75 >!

X10 and Smarthomes Insteon with a X10 Address added. Use different methods to do %dim. An Insteon module will not understand the X10 Extended dim method of specifying a dim level and I have tried using the %dim from an Insteon controller and an X10 module will not understand the commands.

Basically an Insteon or older X10 only Smarthome device will not understand an X10 Extended dim and the X10 modules will not understand the Smarthome %dim commands.

Side note. Smarthome is deleting X10 support in their latest hardware. So I would recommend you do not count on future revisions of Insteon Devices supporting X10 addresses.

Tuicemen's information should get your modules to do what you want.

I guess I should update that page.

Smarthome bought SwitchLinc about 8 years ago and one of the partners in SwitchLinc stayed on to design Insteon. So, most of Smarthome's Insteon/X10 switches/modules support Preset Dims in the same manner as SwitchLinc. It's likely that's also where all the Lincs on the ends of Smarthome's product names originated.

Also, I haven't checked any recent switches/modules, but early Smarthome x10-capable *Lincs send Preset Dims to report their status when they are Dimmed/Brightened under local control as well as when they Resume Dim from Off.

Dave; The earlier Insteon SwitchLinc Dimmers did send a %dim.
An older 2486D KeypadLinc Dimmer and a brand new I2CS 2477D Dual Band SwitchLinc Dimmer both seem to send Bright and Dim commands.
I forgot to log the new 2477D  ???
