Is AHP compatible with Windows 10?
« on: January 27, 2015, 03:33:38 PM »

I read the other day Microsoft plans to offer every one with Windows 7 or 8 a free upgrade to 10 during its first year of release.
Since I dabble in Windows program developments I figured I best test this OS out.
I found a Prerelease download from Microsoft and installed it on a thin client atom 166GHz.
It kept all my settings and programs and AHP even stayed registered! :)%
So far I'm impressed with this new OS.
It looks much like Windows 7 or XP, however it is slower to load but that is to be expected on this old machine.
I'll run a few test over the week with AHP and other Programs but so far everything looks OK! :)%

I just DLed the full (and free) version of windows 10 on my old laptop (originally windows 8 that I upgraded to 8.1).

It was so exciting I fell asleep. There are differences.... I am still exploring (inside joke... at "the edge" of humor).

I am in no rush to put Windows 10 on my Windows 7 computer.
My brother upgraded from 8.1 on his HP and ended up with a trashed computer. Endless cycle of reboots and restarts. Took HP support and the outside support plan he bought. One week to get it back to 8.1.
I have also seen some of the Microsoft Nvidia drivers didn't play nice with their high end video cards.

I downloaded the Windows 10 upgrade, and was getting ready to upgrade my Windows 7 computer.  (All the others are still XP workhorses.)  Then I read a report that sounded like Microsoft and the NSA were in partnership on its development:

....... I read a report that sounded like Microsoft and the NSA were in partnership.

OMG Jeff... of course the new transformational (pronounced: Socialist) government is controlling ALL major corporations in America. Apple, google, Microsoft... are completely in bed with the government.

Every phone call you make is temporarily recorded and then converted to mega-data. Your words are converted to text. Your pauses, intonation, and emotional condition is indicated. The algorithms and mega-data are complete enough to recreate the phone calls in a computer voice that sounds much like your actually speaking. Your travels are logged and allegorized into patterns. Your on-line searches are logged, analyzed, categorized, and sorted. Your banking and investments are well known and classified so changes can be detected. Your facebook and/or other social media content is automaticity scrutinized and collated. Social media Facial Recognition identifies not only pictures of YOU.... but even old pictures of long dead relatives. The Facial Recognition used at the airport uses the info gleamed from on-line content to identify you as you walk into the building. The computers, programs, and algorithms are watching YOU and everyone else.

Don't worry about protecting your privacy! We already lost that battle.

Jeff and Dave,

This explains why Microsoft is offering free Win 10 upgrade to Win 7 users. Win 7 is a good, solid Windows, unlike Windows 8.puke, to me the Win 7 upgrade did not make sense....till now.

When XP was being developed.... the government moved teams of coders into the Microsoft offices the "help make the software secure". The track and control... goes way back.

FYI all my systems took advantage of the upgrade to 10.  :)%

We had absolutely No issues at all. AHP is working, IHouse is working and my BlueIris4 is rolling along with not a single issue. Lucky or not. any obstacles it had was fixed easily by windows as well as having the backward compatibility option which actually works. We still have no access to Cortana yet in Canada. One of my sons did change the region to the USA and seems to have fun with it. I have a group of 3 teenage boys with a strong lust for Online Multiplayer Games. I keep very little if any important information on any computer, Have a laptop with no WiFi for personal and business dealings.

For us is was kinda fun when the upgrade came up and we went ahead with the install. But no doubt in my mind all my systems seem to be running smoother and confidant to say faster. I took advantage of the upgrade for the fact it was Free and Free always has some cost. Look at all the apps and OS's on our phones now a days.  I have a variety of systems from a H/P to Custom built with both Intel as well as AMD chips high end systems to an old clunker. Not a single problem, some did longer than others to upgrade but within 2 hours it was done. If you don't like it then you can always go back to the OS you had before.

One recommendation is not do anything to your system, like removing files or shifting things around, Backup only. Leave it be. Only make sure any updates to any files, or system files or BIOS is up to date, cant promise but it should be smooth. go ahead take the plunge.

Ps, Popcorn ready for tomorrow in hope of the anticipated arrival of the  new WiFi unit from X10. How about an Unboxing video just to give us a little lift to our sunken X10 spirits  >!

I'll see what I can do it may be limited to a simple pic or two. ;)
Watch the Wi-Fi thread for it! ;)

I have downloaded a Window 10 Pro 64 update ISO and put a  Home 32 bit version on a USB stick however I've yet to have time to install.
On any of my systems.
I have to do some back ups first so I don't lose anything new.
Problem is I don't have any Back up media with me at the moment till I get to town. (problem with being off grid back in the sticks).
I'm not very confident with rolling back as that never worked using the pre-release preview version.

That being said my 32 Preview version continues to run on my HP Thin Client very well and Windows updates haven't messed with AHPs registration, which in passed version sometimes would cause it to become unregistered.
