Wink smart home hubs knocked out by a security certificate update

The Wink HUB had a big problem when they updated a security certificate.
Some where recovered remotely but some are bricked and have to be factory repaired.
Nothing like a cloud base system.  ???

I love the idea of my own server looking after my house and now a days these can be run on systems as small as an android TV stick.

I always thought we'd get down to control through programs ran on tiny computers.

But the cloud is still growing up. And technologies mature faster than [human] children. No computer... will ever be smaller than the virtual computer. And soon... the most powerful computers will also be virtual [cloud] computers as well.

And hackers will always keep up. :(
And businesses will always go under, with cloud based ones you may just feel more pain. :(

The cloud does have its place I'm just not sure I'll adapt, but then resistance may be futile ;)
