Just Moved - Dim Problems
« on: September 21, 2015, 09:13:44 PM »

I just moved and am setting up my X10 system.  I am using a CM15 with a upgraded antennae mod, a few Palmpads and the latest software.  All of my wall switches are soft start.

Problem 1
My dining room chandelier won't soft start or dim.  I swapped the switch and no change.  It WILL dim with the Palmpad and macros.

Problem 2
One of my Dens 3 way switches won't soft start or dim at the switch.  I swapped the switch and no change.  It will also NOT dim with the Palmpad.  I have 4 LED lights on the circuit.  I have a second Den lighting 3 way circuit WITH 8 LED lights and it works properly.

CONFUSED!!!

What version of AHP?

When you added the switches to AHP you used the Lamps Tab as they are soft start?

Problem #1 The module will it ramp on and off with the local paddle?
The symptoms sound like you are using a older before soft start switch. As the HR12A that send the plain dim commands works.

Problem #2 Possible the 4 LEDs are not a enough of a load to work correctly.
The power the switch is stealing through the load may keep them On all the time.
Try a changing one or all the bulbs to a incandescent bulb as a test.
8 LEDs maybe enough extra load to let it work correctly.

Are all the LED bulbs the same model. Both the 4 and 8 bulb fixtures?

Is the CM15A being used to transceive the HR12A?

AHP Version 3.318
All of the bulbs are the same on both circuits Cree 60 watt LED equivalent LED's
The switches are set up as the newer soft start models.
The CM15 is what the Palm pad connects to.

Thanks - Brian

I am on the same page as Brian H Are you sure these are the soft start version switch (model number is the same on both versions)? When ON, do they ramp down when you quick press the switch button?  Like Brian said, try an incandescent bulb. If they don't ramp down, taking one to two seconds from full ON to dark bulb, they are not soft start

Problem 1
The light does turn on and off with the switch.  The fixture has 7 candlebra bulbs - same as in my previous home where the switch worked properly.

Problem 2
I replaced one of the bulbs with an incandescent and still no soft start or dim with switch or palmpad.

Still no love from the system!!!

Thanks for ALL of the Insight !!!

I built a test setup for the switches and found that I did have some older non soft start style in my inventory - DUH.  I found some soft start switches (tested before install) and replaced the ones that were installed and my setup now works as it should - what a surprise !!

Thanks for the replies!!!

Glad you found the problem.
One other thing we have seen occasionally. Some of the older models. The House Code and Unit Code switches get dirty with age. So that the module maybe on a different address than the dials point to. Rotating the dials cleans up the switches.
