LIFX has evolved from their Kickstarter introduction. This is a bit pricey at $60 but there is no need for a hub. The variable color is a bit of a specialty also.

Here's another hubless WiFi multi-color bulb at a far more attractive price.

TP-Link has introduced 3 hubless WiFi LED bulbs with more reasonable prices (~$20). It's not clear whether they can be controlled directly or whether their Kasa app needs a cloud server. I suspect it requires a cloud server and have asked their tech support for clarification.

I got a rather quick response from their tech support (plus I found a bit more detail online). You can turn the lights (and their Smartplug) on/off via the local network but dimming, scheduling events and control from outside the local network requires their cloud account. I suspect all but scheduling could be done via a free DDNS server but someone would have to suss out the commands and create Android/iOS apps. (Their cloud account even reports cumulative energy used by each device.)

ITead has Sonoff WiFi controlled wall switches and socket modules (US/Eur) that can be controlled via their eWink app (Android/iOS).

Those are great prices on the units.
