Site Security

(1/1)

ceedee:
Why doesn’t this forum use Https?

beelocks:
I'm only guessing...

HTTPS is the new HTPP. Once everyone has it, it will be the norm.
HTTPS usually costs extra on a hosting package; this is a user-to-user forum graciously hosted by X10, so why would X10 spend extra cash on a service that's free to use?
HTTP is fine for the purpose unless you're a member of the Google Dictatorship who now flags HTTP as 'NOT-SECURE'.
Why would a forum where everyone (hopefully) remains semi-anonymous need a security layer?

Noam:
They already have an HTTPS certificate for x10.com. I wonder if they can use it for the forum, too?

jwlv:
The main reason is the forum software (SMF) does not have an easy or straight forward way to enable SSL. Some SMF forums do have SSL, but to do it is very convoluted and risks major corruption of the databases.

Hey tuicemen  -- this is jwlv from EchoTalk. Dropped by just to check out your forum.

Tuicemen:
Nice to see you here jwlv but it really isn't my forum it is Authinx's (X10's) baby.

@ceedee
With this forum being so old moving to https would as jwlv stated be a disaster. Authinx does have a IT guy that would likely love the challenge but he is most likely busy enough keeping the old x10WTI operational servers just working.
Just updating the SFM forum version has proven not to be an easy task in the past.
