V572 or V572RF32 or W800RF32 WGL + CM11A to replace CM15A?
« on: February 27, 2019, 04:54:20 PM »

I have a CM15A that has been working admirably for years.  I replaced the antenna with one of those RS antennas mounted in my attic so it does a pretty good job with RF (ok, but certainly not perfect).  I also installed a XTB-IIR to boost the PLC to a very acceptable level.  I haven't used AHP in years and HG is in use on an RPi.  So, why look for an update?  Well, I'm considering a switch to Mochad/HeyU and CM15A isn't fully compatible for what I've been looking at.  If I switch to CM11A, I believe it will work better (and I already have a couple sitting around so I can verify functionality).  But, what do do about RF?

Since I have a XTB-IIR, I have a XTB523 port and I believe that means I can connect the V572RF which will then convert RF to PLC.  If so, I'm assuming I'd have a pretty solid setup with very good RF receive (including security modules).  If that works, I don't know if the 32-bit version is a benefit or not.  If that doesn't work, I guess I could consider using the W800RF32 and connect it to the RPi's USB port.  But, then I don't know what software would be needed...so I'm not looking at that seriously.  Anyone with a V572 able to comment on these questions?

That is how my V572 is connected.

The V572's output jack connected to the XTB-IIR's TW523 emulation connector. With a data style phone wire and the wall wart from the V572 powering it.

In my case all in the cellar next to the XTB-IIR and the V572's antenna is just screwed directly into the V572 with an 90 degree F adapter coupler. Works in my house very well.

Since the TW523 and X10Pro PSC05 are discontinued. Jeff's XTB-IIR or XTB-523 are needed to use the V572.

So does the V572 just transceiver everything to PLC? If the RF is security do you link that to a virtual module PLC output?  And how fast is this setup compared to CM15A?

I can't say about security X10 RF signals. I never tested it.
My CM15A is no longer in use. I only unpack it when someone wants a answer to a question. I maybe able to answer. By trying it on my CM15A

The other thing I'd considered is getting something that can do more processing of different RF frequencies.  I've seen RFXCOM in the past, but I think it only does 433MHz so no US X10 at 310MHz.  Are there any other options for receiving with a more advanced RF processor?  I have a weather station and some other 433MHz modules that I decoded the protocol for Arduino but the project never had the desired range.  I should go back and see if there's anything else out there that might work for both purposes.

Just for FYI. I've been running a CM11a and W800USB (usb variant of w800rf32) for quite a while now. I also use the xtb-iir as well. I first started with this setup using a program called Home Control Assistant and it ran without any problems for 2 or 3 years. I switched to using Home Assistant on a Rpi3b+ a few months back because I wanted something more open that I could integrate other protocols with.

I've since moved my HA install from the Rpi to a Nuc. I run heyu for both the cm11a and w800usb. Using heyu I've scripted events to my local mqtt broker to have all my rf motion and security sensors available in HA. So for example, the front door opens and the ds10a signal is received by heyu. Heyu publishes that to the mqtt broker which HA sees and turns a light on and off. All that within a second or less. I mean I barely have my hand off the door knob and the light is turning off.

I haven't used the v572 so I can't speak to how it works, but using the w800usb and a couple of the sr751 in the remote ends of my house I haven't had any wireless reception problems. I was able to arm and disarm my ds7000 with the kr10a from my driveway because of the sr751, but since I'm using home assistant I can detect my home presence and have the system arm and disarm as I leave and come home.

Improving range is fairly easy by using a better antenna and, if necessary, an antenna pre-amp. See...

I had an Arduino setup that worked pretty well for picking up 433MHz but it required an ethernet connection. I tried to switch to ESP for wifi but the code never worked. There are projects that almost work as a gateway, but nothing as-is. So, if there was a off the shelf product that had good range, that would be ideal.  I've seen hacks for the sonoff bridge that look promising and for $10-12 it's cheap enough to try...except the range is reported as 10m. My weather station is 150 feet away through a few walls though.

Would this help?

Also, your range issue will not be solved on the weather station end as the FCC has rather stringent limits on transmit power. There are, however, no such limits on a receiving antenna and pre-amp.

I know about the wifi boards. Part of the reason I wanted to go ESP8266 was the added cpu and memory plus wifi. The Arduino was barely cutting it.

As for range, the weather stations base unit was getting data, so I should be able to make something that would work.  I have a few RFM69 modules but could never get a library to function on the ESP.

Got the "Page Not Found Again" again in Chrome so I right clicked the link and clicked "Open link in incognito window" and it worked. That probably means there's a chrome extension issue or the cache needs clearing.
