Replace SD card on Rpi with SSD
« on: March 06, 2022, 01:02:57 PM »

I did a search of the site and could only find one post from 8 years ago. So, has anyone tried replacing the SD card with an SSD? It would seem to be a perfect fit on a Rpi 4b with USB 3.0 available for speed. I am thinking of trying it. -:)

Looks like it's pretty easy with the addition of a SATA to USB cable.

I believe petera uses a SSD.
I run my setup from a USB stick on both a 3b+ and zero w2

Could you not have left this to play out before you bury it in this folder?? I, for one, never look in a folder that starts with "Mac", never mind its sub folder!

From a hardware requirement perspective read this. It should answer all your questions https://jamesachambers.com/new-raspberry-pi-4-bootloader-usb-network-boot-guide/

Here you will find the actual procedure for doing this. https://www.the-diy-life.com/how-to-boot-a-raspberry-pi-4-from-an-ssd/

When exploring things like this Google search is your best friend. Use it cleverly.
