The Larry, Moe and Curly SW Department
« on: February 01, 2005, 08:47:00 AM »

This CM15A thing is getting so rediculous
that I just have to sit back and laugh. What
has X-10 been working on for three weeks? The
BIG BUG of interface overflow? NO, they fix
up a bunch of room colors and trivial stuff.
Jeez I waited patiently for three weeks in
eager anticipation of not having to reload my
CM15 every three days and we get two garbage
releases riddled with yet a new set of bugs
and the original problem is still there.
Guys, it is time to hire a professional
engineer there to fix this system once and
for all. Stop torturing your loyal customers!

I suspect that they have been working on
the big bug, but they aren't ready to
release the fix yet (if it can be fixed
without a recall).  Since it has been over
a month since the previous release they
decided to do a maintenance release to
appease the masses, especially since
someone started a (false) rumor that they
weren't supporting Active Home Pro
anymore.  This rumor probably started
because it had been so long since the
previous release.

We're still testing, but we'll have more
information soon.

I share the frustrations many times over.
My CM15A just ran a record 8 days before
leaving my home dark, again.  I connected
the USB cable and opened the program.
Nothing more.  Everything started to run
OK.  This points to the clock getting lost,
don't you think?  Is this pointing to
hardware?  I too, would like to hear some
support discussion of the real issue - units
crapping out!

what's the "big bug"?

and I have to admit - looking at the NEW bugs
in the 3.177 release, someone at X-10 IS
doing the work of three men, unfortunately
they're moe, larry, and curly

The big bug is the fact that many (if not
all) users of the CM15A are experiencing the
thing suddenly not working any timer
functions in the stand alone mode after a
few days.  My test seemed to demonstrate the
internal clock was stopping.  This has been
going on for months with no policy statement
from X-10.  They are still selling it on
their website.  Many of us are pretty upset
at their irresponsible stonewalling.  Hey!
It is the rebirth of cool!  We just want it
to work as advertised!

Man, how many chips in this thing? cant be
rocket science. A PIC, an EEPROM and an RF
interface. I have seen alarm clocks that were
more complex. Maybe it is rocket science to
X-10 !!!

Joe:  To give X10 credit, it is dificult to
fix a bug in the EPROM without being able
to reprogram it.
