AHP can't find CM15A
« on: April 04, 2005, 09:13:07 AM »

I don't know if it is related to DST or
what, but last week I was able to open and
edit AHP whenever I wanted, but yesterday
(Sunday) morning, when I went to open it and
see how the DST time change went, AHP says
that the CM15A is not connected.  The
computer is on 24/7  Win XP Media Center,
the USB is always connected, AHP is
stopped.

I unplugged everything, power, USB, rebooted
computer a couple of times, but still shows
no connection.

I hopefully will have time to try to
uninstall, reinstall the software tonight,
it seems I have read somewhere that helps.

Also, X-10 Pro, you had been in contact with
me prior to loosing all the data from the
forum a couple of weeks ago, now my e-mails
go unanswered.  Please contact me regarding
the Media Center software.

If you didn't take out the batteries that
also helps sometimes from what I have read.

I had to unplug the unit from wall outlet
and computer, then removed batteries
overnight before computer would recognize it
again.

After I found this out yesterday, I just
left it alone, AHP shutdown, interface
plugged in, USB plugged in, I actually
haven't bothered to put in batteries yet.

Now tonight I went to try to see what was
wrong, and it works just like it did before.

(I almost screwed up and said it works
perfectly, but thank goodness I came to my
senses before that happened.)

The suspense continues...  Will it work next
time I go to access it or not?

Here I go again.

Everything has stayed the same.

Yesterday, I was able to access the CM15A
as good as I ever could.  Today I was going
to go in there and edit a timer, and now it
says it is gone again.

I don't have time to mess with this
tonight, so I just hope the old CM11A that
I have left running in the background keeps
on plugging away.

This is almost as good as a suspense novel,
will it work or not?  You never know...

Have you checked to make sure the USB cord
is securely plugged in at both ends?  I had
one slip out just slightly from my 4 port
hub and cause some problems.  If you are
using a hub make sure it is AC powered
rather than off the internal power supply of
the computer.  The resetting of the unit
when removing the batteries takes a while
according to X-10 when I asked once.  The
tech said that the capacitor takes a while
to discharge completely.  He recommended at
least 8 hours before reinstalling them.
Hope this helps.

Tom:  The USB power pin on the CM15a is not
connected to anything so it shouldn’t
matter if the hub is AC powered or not.
Also, 8 hours seems rather excessive.  I
have successfully reset my CM15a in about
10 seconds.  You have to wonder if anyone
ever talks to the people on telephone
support.  Maybe they are bitter and are
trying to sabotage the company.
