Times Up
« on: June 23, 2005, 01:26:33 AM »

I've been using my CM15A for nearly a year
without any major problems and I've been
running Active Home Pro software version
3.185. Today out of the blue I can no longer
bring up Active Home -- keep getting the
following error message: "Error getting
x10net interface", I click OK then get a
rundll32.exe application error message.

Well I managed to d/l and install the 3.187
update which seems to have ( at least for
now ) brought my CM15A out of the mud but
from what I've been reading this is not as
stable an update as 3.185 which is what I
had been running. Think I'll play around
with 3.187 and see how it acts with my
system but if I want to get back to 3.185
how do I accomplish that? I see a link to
3.186 but nothing earlier.

If you're using Windows XP, you could use
System Restore.  You can restore your
computer to a state that existed just before
AHP blew out on you via a restore point.
You'll be back to version 3.185 if you do this.

bebop: 3.185 was an iWitness-only update, so
there's not a direct installer for it. I can
create one and put it up there. However, I'd
like to figure out what caused the problem
you saw. We a problem that caused this error
a few versions ago. It was caused by the X10
device service thinking the interface was
still connected when it wasn't, and not being
able to get out of that state. If you see the
error, try stopping the X10 Device Network
service, then connecting the Interface, and
starting ActiveHome Pro.

Well I tried quite a few things but not
specifically the action you describe. I did,
however, unplug the device from the specific
USB port and plugged it back into another
thinking that WindowsXP would have to re-
discover the USB device and maybe re-install
the driver. It didn't make any difference
and so I ended up installing the 3.187
update which did bring the interface back to
life. I just don't understand why after many
months of stable operation the error message
about "x10net" started out of the blue. Like
I said in my second post, I think I'll run
with this version for a while and see how
stable things are. If it becomes necessary
to roll-back to an earlier version I'll get
back in touch. Keeping my fingers crossed!

This thread was very helpfull. I recently
installed the update to activehome and
shortly after got the error message "Error
getting X10net Interface".  I went into
settings/administrative tools/services and
stopped the "X10 Device Network
service" then disconnected the interface from
the usb port and reconnected.  Then I
restarted active home and everything worked.
If anyone sees an update that corrects the
problem, please post a reply.  Thanks x10 pro
for the tip.  Too bad there isn't any help on
x10's support page.
