Leviton Switched don't go "on"
« on: June 29, 2005, 07:41:17 PM »

I am new to Active Home, but not X10.  When
I tell the leviton switch to go 100%,
sometimes it goes to the last "dim setting" -
this never happened with my last software.
Is there a trick to tell it to reset the
state so it goes full on when you tell it
100%?  Any help appreciated.

I am using Leviton Scene controllers and
switches.  You may want to try sending the
command twice.  We I tap the switch
(manually) once it goes to the last
setting.  Twice takes it to the full
setting.  Let me know if this works because
I will be working this same issue shortly.

Last I checked, X10 hadn't fixed the
Leviton bug yet.   Using Macros to turn
them on doesn't work, since it sends them
a "Bright 100%" command.

From what I can tell, the Leviton switches
need an ON command first, followed by
dimming commands.

Try defining a dummy (appliance) module at
the same address.  Turn that on, and then
issue the dimming command from the "real"
module. . . .

Here's the post I had on the BUGS forum.

Hope this helps.

Note that I've been in the computer business
for 20 years and have been doing X10 since
around 1997.  I own several products and
this is the worst so far - I am gettin in
Home Seer from Smarthome since I hear it's
much more reliable - Pete.

------------

FYI - Just a follow up - if you do want to
keep AHP - stuff like this doesn't work.
Example want front lights to go on at dusk,
dim to 50% at 10:30, and off at 11:00pm.
Doesn't work:  Turn ON at Dusk, Off at
11:00pm  Turn ON at 10:30 dim to 50%
Usually works  Turn ON at Dusk  Turn ON at
10:30 and dim to 50%  Turn Off at 11:00pm
Also to ensure you get a full 100% on next
evening, try adding "turn on dim to 1% at
10:58" and "turn on dim to 99% at 10:59"
Actually this gives me about 90% on - it
still goes brighter with the wall switch.
Not to mention if you're watching the house
at 10:58 from across the street it's antics
look pretty stupid.    Never had this issue
with the other packages  I've used - I'm no
expert but apparently  there are different
commands for "turn on to  last dim setting"
and "turn on to 100%" that  the other one's
used.

Just an update - I just got in a Smarthome
Powerlinc USB interface and it works great
using the Home Sear (purchased extra) and
the Smarthome Manager Plus software (it came
with that) - They both work with the Leviton
and have the special commands to set their
relative, absolute, and on/off properly.
Also the timer's work great.  Everything I
setup worked the first time & I've had no
problems.  Now I just need to figure out
what to do with the extra 2-3 hours per day
I have freed up by not having to screw with
X10's stuff - Pete.
