I have been going back and forth trying to
figure out if I should purchase this
software and hardware to start my home
automation project.  I must say it looks as
if there are some major bugs.  So I thought
I would ask those who have used this
package what your thoughts are.  So bottom
line...Should I purchase and would you do
it again if you had it to do over?

If you want to just plug it in and it work
100% FORGET IT. But then very little in the
home automation is. I've been using since
it was first released and for the most part
have had very little problems (one of the
Lucky ones I guess) most problems can be
over come if you'd like to see what others
are saying about this and other
homeautomation products check out :

I love my setup and would do it again!
Be prepared to do alot debuging no matter
which system you go with. House wiring
isues will pop up as will radio wave
problems but they can be over come.

I started back with the first ActiveHome, and
it all worked pretty good for me. I had to
take apart all of my original home automation
for a remodeling project, and I just got back
into AH. I saw the new Pro version and it
seemed pretty darn cool. After reading the
forums I was a little skeptical. But I
thought what the heck and jumped right in
again. I must say that so far, I am VERY
happy! Granted, my setup is not very large at
the moment (1 outlet, 1 appliance module, 4
wall switches, and 4 lamp modules), but so
far I have not had a single problem with this
setup. Even macros and timers are working
100%. I do still have about 3 more light
switches, 4 more lamp modules, 2 more
appliance modules, and 2 more outlets to install.

I would say that the only issue I would have
is the range of the RF on the cm15a. But, I
bought a seperate whole house transceiver so
this does not bother me. Should X10 fix this
problem? Sure. But, if that is going to be
the only problem I really encounter, I am
still, very satisfied. After all, I really
can't think of anything that I would buy that
would be absolutely 100% perfect without
flaws. Operating systems, cars, food...you
name it, and there is something that could be
improved on. The other issue I had was with
x10 signals not reaching certain rooms in the
house. But, a plug-in phase coupler solved
that. You can't fault X10 for that since this
is an inherent electrical issue.

Would I do it again? Well, I DID do it again!
Now, would I do it again with the identical
set up that I have now? Absolutely! All I
have to do now is set up my security system
and set my cameras back up, and my home will
be complete!

I would say that if your set up is going to
be relatively simple in design (lamps,
lights, appliances, some macros, some
timers), I wouldn't hold back at all. Mine
are working flawlessly!

Thanks for you feeback. It sounds as if you
have a small home project the package is
manageable but, you will have to put some
time into it. (I'm used to that!).

I started out with the old Lighthouse
program years ago. I worked flawlessly, but
was a little complicated to program. AHP is
a lot friendlier to setup. I run timers for
my pool pump, A/C's, Yard lights, security
cameras, etc. (14 timers in all) They all
work great. My only problem has been that
the interface has difficulty receiving RF
signals. I think it needs a better antenna.
It doesn't always receive signals especially
from active eye motions sensors. Over all I
am well pleased. I get many compliments on
my automated home.

My AHP has 24 modules of both lamp, appliance
and other module types in service with
timers, macros and three different .ahx files
for different times of the year.

I have never had a problem with AHP that was
program related. Any problem was either noise
or module. The software and interface have
worked properly from the day AHP was first
installed. It flawlesly imported all my files
from Active Home.

I don't have any of the software add-ons, as
my system has no cameras and does not need
any "power" macros.

I'm happy with AHP.
