These forums are back in the horse and buggy days
« on: January 04, 2006, 06:34:31 PM »

I use many forums on the Internet. I have to
say that the X-10 forums are about the worst
I've seen, from the standpoint of X-10/s
software and resources.

They load like I'm on dialup, instead of
broadband. I see no way to search for any
threads I've started, or any search
capability, other than 2 sorting choices.

Every time the forum finally loads, I get an
error mesage about a "script" not running,
and do I want to continue.

C'mon X-10 get with it. Get rid of the
donkey, and get a modern framework.

You getting the popups like me?
It does seem thet the AHP fourms do load
slowly. The older X10 area seems to be
somewhat faster. I too am DSL.

It's free, so why gripe?

I'm on cable broadband, and any delay is due
to traffic on X10's servers.

I love it when people who got on a web bbs
for free want all the "bells & whistles" but
don't want to pay for it.

Read the disclamer when you post. It's at the
bottom of the "Post a New Message"

You can stop the error message within
Internet Explorer/Tools/advanced
click "Disable Script Debugging"

updating the X10 forum site is low on
X10's "Lets Fix This" list.

Every other web forum I use is also free,
and somehow or another, they are able to
provide a much better interface and on much
faster servers

One of the Baltimore boards I get on runs
phpbb bbs software.  It's Ok, but I prefer
threaded boards, which neither X10's or phpbb
is. My general view is "put up with what you
get".

Hm.  I've actually always hated threaded
boards, largely because they provide much
less information "at a glance" than flat
boards do.  To each his or her own :)

I'd like to point out that this forum is NOT
free.  I paid a great deal of money for some
hardware that is NOT working, and these
forums are part of my support options.  They
ARE slow, and nearly featureless.
(yes, I am upset at the X10 product, and
YES, poor support, including poor forum
performance, is aggravating the issue.)

Anyone know why this forum software is so
primative, and the server(?) so slow?  IS
better software that expensive?  I know
guys who have set up various forums for
fun / hobby type things, so I doubt the've
spent much money, yet the software is much
nicer and the data comes up much faster.

I think if X10 were to allow some of their
users to jump into their webserver, they
would probably find that we could set up a
forum which was ten times more effective for
exactly zero cost.

But hey, whatever.  They probably have a deal
for support with whoever supplied them with
this forum, so why get rid of it?
