Iwitness maxes out my CPU
« on: April 27, 2005, 09:42:59 PM »

When I am viewing video in AHP, my PC slows
down.  Task manager shows my CPU as maxed.
Sometimes it even locks up.

If I minimize AHP, my PC runs normally.

Help.

Dan: How fast is your computer? Does AHP run
that slowly if you don't have the video
window open?

Laptop Specs:
Pentium 4 2.8ghz
Ati Radeon 9000 video card
512mb Ram

The machine or AHP runs great when the
video window is not open.

I just noticed that if the video is in a
new window, not in AHP, my PC does not get
as slow.  It is much better but not ideal.

Dan: I'll check with the team here and see
what you might be able to do about that. I
run iWitness here on a 1.7GHz box and it
doesn't really bother my performance too much.

When you say that it's slower in AHP, do you
mean when the Video Window is docked inside
the main AHP window? Do you have hardware
acceleration turned on in your display
settings (from Control Panel)? What
resolution do you run  your computer at?

Yeah, it is slower when it is docked in
AHP.  Yes, I have the hardware acceleration
turned on.  My display is set at 1400x1050.

I am hoping it is a setting that I need to
tweak.  Thanks.  Hopefully we can figure it
out.

Dan-
I have the same problem, but slightly
different.  My video is fine untill I start
recording.  Then it max's out my cpu and
the mouse only moves intermitenly.  I have
a amd athlon processor with 512mb ram as
well.  Strong computer on everything else.
Even run AHP flawlessly execpt for this
video recording problem.  I hope it's an
easy fix.

I to am experiencing computer problems when
trying to record video. Stills record fine.
When I try to record video my CPU usage
jumps up to 100% and after a short time the
program crashes. My  computer is only a
Pentium 800 with 256 mg ram. This might be
part of the problem..X10 what are the
minimum system requirements for AHP with I-
witness.

Jim: Recording (and even viewing) video can
be pretty system intensive. It could be that
our default frame rate and resolution
settings are a little too high for your
system -- you could try adjusting those down
and see if the performance improves.

Check and see how much of your system cache
is being used.  I've noticed that with XP
and above that if you don't have enough
memory, the overall system is slow.  The
key is seeing what the Available Physical
memory is an if very low, then the system
is paging information to the hard drive.
This can all be check by opening the task
manager and looking at the performance
tab.  I would recommend that anyone running
XP or above have at least a Gig of Ram.

I have the same Issue  Running Windows XP
with a 768MB of Ram but also am experiencing
issues where the picture will not even
display on the screen and when it does.
It's like super-slow frame rate (like it's
taking snapshots and updating every 15-20
seconds before frame change)  I assumed that
My performance would be slow...but that
slow?  I can play Half Life 2 on my machine
and that game is far more demanding than
simply trying to broadcast a black and white
video image.  I'm not even trying to record
or take pictures of anything.  Are my
configuration settings wrong.  I have plenty
of extra memory when I look at the
performance tab in the task manager.  For
those of you whose systems are running
smoothly...what type of hardware are you
using?  And what are your software settings
at?

My system P4 2Ghz
Nvidia 5200 128MB Video Card
768MB Physical Memory
240GB Hard Drive

X10,

Simply starting Iwitness and viewing a
camera causes my CPU usage to shoot to 100%
and stay there.  So it is no wonder that I
am unable to record video. I don’t have
this problem when I record video using my
video card.

Ok.  I am getting frustrated.  I just spent
over $500 on this software and cameras.  As
soon as I try to view a camera, my PC locks
up and will not respond to anything except
holding the power button down.  Now, other
people can view video fine, so it must be
something with my settings.  My PC is fast
enough, we have established that.  I need
to get this resolved.   If it can’t be
resolved, then everything is pretty much
useless and I am going to send it all back.

Please help.
