Compare X10 iWitness to my new DVR card (Part1)
« on: November 03, 2005, 06:19:40 PM »

Hello,
I am having problems with smart macros and
the iWitness video capture reliability.
I purchaced a 'Grandtec X Guard' 4 channel
DVR card as a possible replacement and would
like to share my observations with you all.

Part TWO:

I received the GXG-4000 card ($99.00) and
installed it. The small instruction manual
seems to be written in reverse Chinese, that
would be confusing to people like me. After
a few cycles through the install process it
started working. It works pretty darned good
once it is started. I have run this card for
about 3 days without a failure to capture
video. My ‘iWitness’ system never went
longer than two days without failing.

The GXG-4000 will capture motion, reliably.
It will only capture motion. There are two
settings, ‘capture on motion’ and ‘capture
on time interval’ plus ‘motion detection’.
In the ‘capture on motion’ setting, frames
without motion will not be recorded. All
frames are 320 x 240. There is a choice of
the amount of compression. I can only live
with the 100% setting.

Before I get flamed by the ‘defenders of
X10’, I would like to state, again. I am an
X10 user, I am also a SmartHome user. I have
a lot of Insteon products now installed. I
am only posting this so that more
information can get into the hands of the
actual users.

Hi,

This is my last post in this forum (cheers
heard from X10 associates...).

I uninstalled AHP today. My CPU idle time
went from 17% to 0% (without AHP running).
Wierd huh?

The DVR card is rock solid reliable. It does
not have all of the tweaks that I liked
about AHP. The bottom line is that I need
reliability in liew of all of those tweaks.

Regards to all.

The address below is an interesting forum
for ALL home automation products.

See you there!
