X10 Camera Lenses
« on: November 05, 2005, 01:00:41 PM »

Has anyone removed, modified or swapped a x10
cam lens ?  Will it unscrew without damaging
the cam ?  I have noticed on all my cams, the
center is in focus but the outer 20-30% is
slightly out of focus.  Probably a result of
cheaper lenses.   Any Ideas ?

I removed the lens on my night cam & swapped
it with one from an old logitech webcam lens
to try to solve the same problem. It
unscrewed easily.There is a external
pressure spring to keep the lens from
shifting,otherwise no problem (same thread)
FYI the focal length on the logitech lens
was considerably longer and it actually had
more edge distortion than the original lens.
Try not to keep the CCD element open &
exposed to dust for to long.
Hope this helps

Mike S.
Thanks for the info... I have several lenses
that may have the same thread size.  The
lenses were from some old 3COM USB cams and
were for close up, med and long range.  Think
I'll try one and see how it looks.  I have
noticed quite a bit of edge distortion in all
3 of my X10 cams.  I was really surprised to
find the microphone on the cams was really
excellent.  If i turn the volume way up I can
hear the neighbors talking..eek..oops...  The
nearest home is about 500 feet away !  With a
directional cone placed over the mic I bet I
could hear the birds talking 1000 feet
away...smile
