AHP 3.175 crash / not sending signals after 5 days
« on: January 03, 2005, 02:03:05 PM »

In reading several other posts, there are two
problems (details below) that appear to be
common that I need fixed, as AHP no longer
runs, and as it has been over 5 days since
last download to controller, it has stopped
sending commands, so I am stuck.

1.  AHP v175 crashing on startup, but most
people are on XP SP2.  I am seeing this on XP
SP1, immediately after the upgrade, I don't
even get it to run once.

The error is:
AppName: activehm.exe
AppVer: 3.0.0.175
ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1560
Offset: 00016bc2

2.  After about 5 days the wall unit running
independently seems to quit sending commands.
It still runs macros, but not any timed
events.  Clearing memory and downloading
seems to get this working again, but it is
not acceptible for it to stop in the first
place.

IMPORTANT: A common request seems to be a way
to
install specific previous versions so if a
recent build breaks, a previous build can be
used until a fix is worked out

Can anyone at X10 give more info and/or
timeframes for fixes for these problems, and
perhaps a a way to upgrade to any previous
version?

Thanks!

Reading the latest forum coments on
behavior/missbehavior of CM15A, here my
comment and questions.

Comment:
The longest working period my AHP H/W, I
noticed (with version 3.175) was 5 days !!!,
then the unit did not work anymore - total
stop, or skipping timers.
I usually take the CM15A to my computer,
plug it into the mains again
- try to act anything via the palm pad
remote - nothing.
- power the PC up and somtimes later I plug
the USB connection - then I try/tried the
palm pad actions again - I got action again.
- I did not try anything else (my wife is
meanwhile upset), I just downloaded ths S/W
again.
- this happend at least twice, I gather from
this, that I kicked-of the CM15A to some
life again via the 5 Volt from the USB port.

...................
I ordered my AHP ~ 9th of Sept04 - is it an
early H/W version ?
My Question(s) are:

Is X-10 aware of any AHP H/W problems?
Do I own an early version?
If yes - Is there a modified version
available?

I do not think that all the problems are
linked to a S/W problem - unless the
firmware has a BUG.
I read somewere in the Forum, that the
monitor facility is writing to the CM15A
memory - if that is true - at what time is
the CM15A memory full - can it cause a stop ?

Holger Fuerst  If you read loop test in the
general forum you'll see that something is
filling up the CM15A when disconected from
the PC. I ordered mine in sept as well. I
don't run mine disconected from the PC. So I
don't have a problem with time or lock ups
(not yet).
Also check out :
http://forums.accessx10.com/
There is a more detailed post about the loop
test there. Lots of help from users that are
having the same problems and found work
arounds to solve many problems untill some
fixes are made. There is a search option so
finding posts is fast.

Just another data point, I'm getting
the "halt and stop sending" error on XPSP2
with the unit connected. <sigh>

After days of working reasonably well, I
got the following:

AHP no longer running in tray.
Restart AHP - appears to work correctly.

later...

Scripts no longer being executed
Manual control of lights not working

Sent Clear Memory and Download to controller
No change

Mike: Your ActiveHome Pro set-up now won't do
*anything*?

Does the CM15A show up correctly in Device
Manager? If you look at Services, is the X10
Device Network service running? Is X10nets in
your task list? Do you get a successful
download message when you store data in the
interface? When you click the switch on a
module in AHP does the little green light
next to the switch change?

Some quick answers from memory. More when I
get home and can check.

Does the CM15A show up correctly in Device
Manager?
Will check from home.

If you look at Services, is the X10  Device
Network service running?
I believe so but will double check at home.

Is X10nets in  your task list?
Almost certain that it is.

Do you get a successful  download message
when you store data in the  interface?
Yes. I get the expected messages on both an
interface clear and on a timer/macro
download.

When you click the switch on a  module in
AHP does the little green light  next to
the switch change?
Yes. The UI acts as though it's all working
correctly.

Hmmm. I was thinking that maybe AHP wasn't
really communicating with the CM15A, but it
appears that it is. If you use a remote
control, do you see incoming events in the
Activity Monitor?

Aargh. When I came home I had a hard hang
in another app, had to log off and this
time things work. Sorry. I tried to
maintain state for you guys.

Sounds like somehow the software wasn't
talking to the CM15A, if logging out fixed it.

The odd thing is that previously, even a
full reboot didn't fix it.

Of course, it's still not working
correctly. I've got a multi-delay macro
that never completes the delay items.

(Kind of:
Do A
Wait 15 minutes
Do B
Wait 30 minutes
Do C
and while it reliably does A, it never gets
past that to do the post delay items)
