Strange Activity monitor entries 3.180
« on: February 17, 2005, 10:42:17 AM »

After running a few minutes I noticed some
activity monitor entries like 'Receive RF C
PTZOn',  'Receive RF B Three' (also B Two,
B One, I Nine-- notice how the number is
spelled out instead of just being displayed
as a numeric character).   I don't have
devices at these addresses (and I don't
know how PTZOn would map to an address).

Legitimate housecodes that I do use are
being displayed with a single alpha and
numeric character as usual.

This is on Win98SE, using 3.180.

I think we're doing something wrong with RF
commands in Activity Monitor. Those commands
are all ones you would see from an X10 RF
remote "Two", "Three", etc. are buttons on
our MP3/DVD Sender remote controls, for
example. This should be pretty easy for us to
identify and fix here.

I'm getting similar odd RF codes as well.

I've seen stray RF codes around the time I
plug or un-plug the USB, just chalked it up
to noise / spikes, whatever.  But now I see
some of the same as mentioned by Burdy....

I too have found some strange rf reports
with this update
transmit J uknown (probly noise)
recieve  I D  (what is D?)
transmit A ootv (transmit?)
recieve  J three
I don't use J or I. I do have a remote mouse
but that is on code A. So if the A oot was
from it, shouldn't it say recieve instead?

I'm pretty sure the commands reported in
Activity Monitor aren't the commands that are
actually being received -- we're seeing the
same here and are working on it.

The signals you see are also shown when
using the SDK to send RF commands (3.180
supposedly updated something for it).  The
strange 00TV and others show up but the
sendrf function STILL DOES NOT WORK
CORRECTLY....

Please fix the SDK sendrf and it may fix a
whole lot of other problems to boot.

I get similar things when I start up
ActiveHome Pro the first time after booting
my computer, and now after loading 3.180.

I get the following in the Activity Monitor:

Receive N All Units Off

This happens twice a second, until I unplug
he unit and plug it back in.  When I do that,
I get Receive FR A Unknown and nothing else.
The system then works normally.

Anyone else see this?

Problem Summary:  For CM15A    AHP 3.180
PC P4 2.4GHz, 1GB Ram, 200+GB HD, XP Pro
SP2, USB 2.0 using a 10Ft USB extension
cable.
1.   TV making noise on PL.  Installed
AF120 120VAC, 15A, Plug-in filter By
Advanced Control Technologies, Inc.  AND
SignaLink 4826B coupler repeater plug-in at
220 dryer plug. TV on still problem with
some X10 transmission and CM15A Activity
monitor reports house and unit codes that
are not being used.  Some examples are:
“Receive RF   G PTZOff”
“Transmit RF   A 00TV”
“Receive   Status Request”     [as
frequently as 3 per each second!!]
“Receive   P13”
“Receive   B13”
etc.,
TV off all is well and the above strange
House and Unit codes disappear.  TV is an
RCA P61310 HDTV/DTV.
2.   CM15A antenna range is less then 60%
of UX23A and TM751. Shouldn't it have a
similar range?
3.   Sometimes after I’ve been looking at
the macros and I click on see all rooms the
dimmable switches all come up as Bright 100%
but non of said lights are actually on. Have
to then issue an all lights off to
resynchronize status at AHP display.

We're looking at this problem.

My ISP had you (X10.com) listed as a spammer
and you were generally blocked.  You should
be able to get to me now.

Question why do I get messages from X10
sales confirming a sale or shippment without
any apperant problems and you get blocked?

Did anyone ever explain the code PTZOn?  I
understand all the other seemingly random RF
codes are usually from remote controls that
have some PL capabilities ... my ATI Remote
Wonder is a case in point.  That one I can
identify as housecode P; and I chose not to
use that housecode anywhere else.  The PTZOn
signals are still stumping me though ... I
can't identify a source, thoughts?

Sooz: PTZOn is an RF command in the X10
scheme, but if it's appearing in your
Activity Monitor that's probably a result of
the bug that's creating the weird entries for
other people.

Sooz

My guess is it is used for camera control.
PTZ probably stands for Pan/Tilt/Zoom.

What's the status of fixing the bug?  And are
current registered users eligible for
upgrades?  It doesn't "appear" to cause any
known problems in my home control stuff.  I
want to start playing with the SDK, but I'd
like to get correct log events when I do.

Sooz:
Hope your running XP if you wish to use the
SDK. If not you'll have to wait for the
update for that as well.
