I'm finally giving up...
« on: October 21, 2005, 08:28:09 AM »

I ordered AHP when it first came out - and
soon returned it because the software
crashed so often I couldn't even try it. My
old CM11, which worked about 95% of the time
programmed signals and I don't remember it
ever crashing.

I was using the RR501 transceiver which
worked most times if I could position my
body in a certain way (and tapped my heels 3
times) though with a few second delay - and
any attempt at dim control would completely
lock it up. I had always chalked up the
lockup to the leviton repeater/coupler I
have.

So needing a replacement and a short memory,
I ordered the new AHP and CM15. The
programmed signals now only work about 60%
of the time, and the remotes about 20%. I
even tried installing the CM15 on its own
circuit at the breaker box = no improvement.
And the software still crashes, but only
occassionally - when accessing help and
adjusting time values in timers.

Since the remote feature was basically
useless, I ordered the smarthome transceiver
= works 100% of the time even with dimming.
Nice!!

I've now had it with the AHP for computer
control - I don't want flaky operation nor
frustration when accessing the software. I'm
still looking, but smarthome maybe the one I
try next.

Would anyone like to purchase this - it's
only 3 weeks old - and would make a nice
holiday gift for the special someone you
would love to see tear their hair out. I
sure hate to have thrown out $50.

Any other ideas?

I took mine out to back yard and set fire to
it...I felt good all day.

Tomorrow I'm going to set fire to my
Smarthome 1132CU controller. It works only
marginally better.

It's bad enough you've been turning lights
on and off all the time.  Now you want to
add to our air polution too?  :-)

Other message boards have for sale areas.
See the forums at www.cocoontech.com or
www.accessha.com.  While the cm15a isn't
exactly the plug-n-play appliance the
marketing materials make it out to be, I've
seen some hackers make them do interesting
things.  I'm sure you can find a buyer.
Just don't expect to get full price!

Hmmm...I've read a few articles about
modifying the 15 to do a better job of
tranceiving, so while not an electronics
wizard, maybe I'll get a little education by
cracking open the case to see where my $50
went, since it didn't go into anything else
useful for me. I'll also check for any parts
marked with the recyclable traiangle.

It's a shame that this CM15 replacement for
my old RR501 is worse, not better; ditto for
AHP and AH. It seems like X10 decided to
lessen quality all around for some reason.
All it's going to do to this customer is to
make me permanently scratch them off my list.

www.accessha.com
Has a nice mod for adding an external
antenna that gives better range. Will do
nothing for crashing though.
