Camera System Internet Access & Record to PC
« on: December 09, 2004, 03:41:29 PM »

Hello,
I am wondering if it is possible to hook up
the x10 camera system and use
multiview/webview to access through the internet.
And
Have streaming video recorded to a PC hard
drive. What cables and video card would I
need or can anyone recommend?
Thanks

I sort of have the same question.  I want
to do security and automation, and would
like to integrate the two systems as much
as possible.  I'd rather run everything
through one PC than going back and forth
between the PC and the TV/VCR.

Thanks.

DCM and RST

Multiview/Webview will allow you to view
snapshots of up to 4 cameras over the
internet (up to 1 image every 4 seconds).
It doesnít provide true streaming
capabilities. Additionally, it will only
record snapshots to your hard drive at a
similar interval. So you wouldnít be able
to record full motion video. X10 is working
on a Streaming XRAY Vision software
solution but Iím not sure it allows you to
actually record.

There are several software products that
can handle streaming video over the net and
record to your HD, but you would be happier
with a hardware solution. If you donít want
to spend a lot of money, you may want to
investigate something like the AVerMedia
Smart Guard. Itís a cost effective MPEG4
compression card with 4 video inputs. You
can watch all four cameras simultaneously
at roughly 30FPS with a resolution of
320X240. It also has the ability to record
to your HD either when motion is detected
or full time.

Hope that helps point you in the right
direction.
