Reliability
« on: June 21, 2005, 02:02:53 PM »

I have had my X10 security system for several
months, and so far, I am very pleased with
it.  However, for an extended trip, I am a
bit uneasy about the motion detector
reliability and usually end up arming in the
home mode. (for door and window sensors only)

Has anyone experienced false alarm from the
system?  How long have you kept the system in
the full-armed mode without any problems?

I've owned mine for probably over 6 months
and have never had a single false alarm. Just
make sure your sensors aren't in the path of
direct sun rays i'd say, even though that
probably shouldn't matter. It should be fine.
Longest mine's been armed so far has probably
been 3 days.

I have been operating the system in RUN-2
mode for 6 months. I have experienced 3
occasions where a door sensor trip event
resulted in "false-ARMing and ALARM which
could not be silenced by any remote. I had
to remove battery and AC to stop the shrill
each time. The false-ARMing has never
occured in RUN-1 mode.

I had never noticed if the system was
accidently pre-ARMed (with ARM LED on)
however the motion sensor covering the same
door did not cause the alarm to sound prior
to exiting (as if the false arming condition
was "at-home-mode").

I reset the system each time making sure the
door sensor was in a different zone. The
problem seemed to follow the same sensor
(other sensors have not yet triggered a
false alarm). X10 Support has inferred that
the specific sensor's "tigger event" being
transmitted to the system may be corrupt
causing the system to behave baddly. X10 is
preparing to replace the offending sensor.
