IR Commands
« on: November 07, 2005, 12:28:44 AM »

Hello everybody.  I just installed (for
now) a very small Automation system.  It
consists of a Lamp Module, a Wall Switch
Module, ActiveHome Pro, and the USB
interface box.  I wish to turn on my
stereo, TV, etc... with modules, and yet I
realize I cannot.  Most of the appliances
in my home have "push-button" on switches.
You have to push a button to turn them on,
or use the remote.  If anyone knows of a
special module that can send IR remotes
like my TV controller can, that would be
great.  (I am an X10 newbie :).  Help is
greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

To my knowledge the only IR transmitter
available is the VCR Commander, but
unfortunately it has some serious
limitiation that make it dificult to use it
for anything other than its inteded
function of recording from a camera.  You
might be able to get it to work for you
though.

SmartHome used to make something called an
IRLinc, but they haven't made it for quite
a while.  I am not sure how well it worked.

This is, in my opinion, a big "missing
link" in the X-10 type product line.  I
remember a video they once had (maybe still
have?) showing a guy coming home and having
the X-10 automatically turning on his
RECORD PLAYER.  (Obviously they can't have
it turn on the CD Player.)  They should
come up with something like the
RemoteSENDER Infrared Remote Control
Extender - PM5900 which receives commands
from X-10 to control infrared controlled
components.  Plus, it should have some way
to be a "learning" universal remote.  I
figured they'd come up with something like
this by now.
