Switch has a ghost -- turns itself on
« on: December 28, 2005, 06:35:21 AM »

I have a switch in my bathroom that all day
long, about every 20 minutes, turns itself
on!  I can't figure it out. I've replace the
switch and the problem didn't go away.  I
thought it might be when a switch is turned
on elsewhere, but I've watched it and it
happens even if the whole family is out of
the house.  Any thoughts?  It's just the
bottom end dimmer switch.

Could be some type of powerline noise.
Others have reported the wall switches going
on by them selves. Some have done the hack
found on some forums to improve them. Not
too easy to do though.

I have the same problem with 2 (WS4777) 3-Way
Wall Switch Modules, I removed and unplug
every x-10 item in my house and they keep
turning on, finally I had to remove the WS4777.
Everything else is working OK except the
clock in the Mini Timer (MT10A), it runs very
fast about 1 hour per month.
is there a hack?, were can i find it?
Hope some body can help me, thanks.

I have the same problem. I have a 3-way
with a motion detector and chime where the
motion detector will turn the outside
lights on and ativate the chime when it
detects motion at night near are front
door. I have noticed outside lights turn on
even though the chime did not go off and
this happens even during the day when the
motion sensor is disabled. I believe it is
noise and the noise is tripping the
switches but not the chime. Have no idea
which device in the house is the culprit
but it could be anything. I know you can
purchase filters to put on devices but I
have not idea what device is causing it and
since it happens only a few times a day it
will be difficult to isolate.

I have 2 wall modules and a plug in, which
go off at random. I don't have an automatic
turn on.  I must do it manually/remote. One
seems to switch on when the pool motor
starts  but the rest is at random.  I am in
the country side, not near powerlines etc.
I switched to a different house code and
the same happened. I began to thinlk that
the unit was broken, but someone else
replaced them already without resolution. A
real nuisance without an answer.  I wish
the company would monitor this and reply.

xerxes; Do they turn on and off or only off
if on?
The pool motor maybe making enough powerline
noise to switch the module on or off. If the
wall switches and plug in module are dimming
types. A momentary power loss will result in
an Off condition. Appliance Modules and
relay type wall switches will stay in the
state they where when the power is
interupted.
Also others have seen wall switches be very
sensative to powerline noise. Some have
modified theirs for better noise rejection.

i have the same 3 way switch module turing
itself on.  It worked great for about a
year. I changed the codes, installed TVSS
on my Electrical service unpluged any
recently purchased appliances and it still
turns itself on.  Wife is about ready to
kill me if the lights turn themself on
again.

I too had a ghost light.  First I watched my
log to see the times it came on which were
pretty regular.  I then changed the code (of
course) and set my all code transceiver to
block out that series (C code by the way).  I
don't have neighbors close enough to trip my
code setup and think it might be something
the city sends down the wire.  In any event
my ghost went away.

over powerlines.

Error - Invalid house code byte 00" is what I
get on my log.  I have set up the offending
code as "Ghost" so when I get a hit on that
code, that's what my log says.  I'm using
Indigo with a V572A and a Powerlink.  I also
have a USB Powerlink that runs the house when
the computer is off.
