X10 Update Causing Problems - AHP v3.201
« on: February 12, 2006, 12:08:07 AM »

After installing AHP and all of the <BR>plugins, I attempted to get the iWitness <BR>video recording functionality to work <BR>within a macro as described.  What I found, <BR>is that incorporating video recording <BR>within a macro caused AHP to crash 100% of <BR>the time.  It crashes, indicating that "the <BR>memory can't be read," indicating that <BR>there is either an unitialized memory <BR>pointer, or a null pointer.  If you want me <BR>to debug/disassemble it to tell you exactly <BR>where it is crashing, let me know, and I <BR>will do so.

X10 Update Causing Problems - again!
« Reply #1 on: February 13, 2006, 09:23:45 AM »

why can't you get it right?  Why  not <BR>advertise on monster.com and hire some real <BR>software writers? <BR> <BR>After many hours manually removing the <BR>HUNDREDS of references to X10 in my windows <BR>registry last year, I finally got it to work <BR>reliably with ver 2.99. <BR> <BR>Along comes 3.00 and greater, and each has <BR>left me with AHP that ruins 3-300 minutes <BR>between crashing and rebooting windows <BR>again!@#$%$#@@!!!! <BR> <BR>x10 fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

At least you got it to work reliably. Mine
never ever did allow geographic settings and
holidays (merely choosing to look would
crash, flooding the wires will signals of
its own making and also filling up the find
computer page with red squares> The response
from x10 was non existant. The interface is
just an antenna now for the remotes. I just
don't have the time. (and another piss-off -
after trying to get us to buy a web version
they now give it away and nothing for us who
stuck with the damn thing trying to make it
go since it was introduced.

If you can provide any additional information
about these problems I'd like to help resolve
them.

Re: iWitness video recording in macro causes ahp to crash

What version of AHP is this? Does AHP crash
when you put the video recording command into
the macro, or when the macro runs? If you try
to record video by starting and stopping it
manually (not from a macro, but from in the
video window) does it work?

I'm away from home until mid Mar, but will
take you up on the 'offer' when I am in
front of the PC. However am running XP Pro
SP2, 512M ram. When I try to set location
there is only 'custom' I think, if I try the
pull down, windows says it encountered an
error and has to close pgm. Same deal if in
I try to use 'Holidays'. Windows needs to
shut the pgm. I have deleted AHP, searched
and purged the registry (as far as I could
tell)and reinstalled to no avail. Tried with
another PC (XP Home SP2 512M) and same
affair. Sometime between then and when I
gave up, Find Computer shows every
combination red except the code I am using.
Also sometimes AHP sends signals (looking in
the log wasn't apparent what it was for)
continuously I notice because my SignaLinc
Plug-in Coupler-Repeater will blink
furiously - and no 'regular' commands can
get through. If I unplug the
Coupler/repeater 20 min latter the signals
are still flying, unpluging, removing the
batteries from the CM15A and all is happy.
(All was sent to support via email with win
errors etc etc and narry a peep from them by
the way)

OK, I'm game.  Let's try to help you make it
work right.  I'll even add my two cents worth
to GKwhites issues first as they are of
course real and probably there in ALL AHP
software.

He says only custom shows in pull down
choices - TRUE.  The list disappeared
somewhere around 'update' 2.4  It does NOT
crash AHP IF - IF - you have 'show us and
canada only' clicked and use the emtpy
pulldown.  But 1 second after you unclick
this block AHP crashes.  consistent.
Therefore fixable.

GR's comment about 'find other computers'
showing all red is similar to here:  Most
blocks, other than my few used ones in A & B,
are filled with either red or yellow.
Watching my ActiveHome booster/repeater on
220V outlet I added near my detached workshop
breaker box, it is often repeating stuff
that is obviously not my code:  I am half
assuming  it is CM15's random crap output
caused by USB cable noise pickup as others
have seen. It would be well worth your while
to UPS RED me an X10 signal strength/code
identifier unit to test this theory FOR YOU.
Send me tracking so I can watch for it please.

Now on to my observations.  There is nothing
I do that seems to effect when AHP crashes
and reboots my computer.  I have icon in my
start menu to automatically start AHP on
power up.  It used to work - again, before
version 3.xx.  Now I believe I can say it
consistently crashes ahp on every power up,
leaving me a windows 'sorry, a program
crashed' box.  I can send you the cpu
register info this provides each time if you
wish.

Next, on to the 3-300 minute between crashing
now.  Most of the time it simply crashes ahp,
again leaving me the windows debug block
asking if I want more details (cpu
registers), but probably once per day it
crashes windows causing a reboot also.  this
is win XP 2nd ed withi all windows updates
automatically applied so upto date, 512mb
ram, AMD processor, 40gb hd, only other
program running ever is Symantic ACT:  this
used to be a dedicated server sharing a HD.
Now it does nothing but sit here (AND CRASH).

Anything else I can add?

PS:  remember to send me UPS tracking no.

X10Pro,

After crashing ahp 5-6 times to duplicate
again gk's custom setting issue, I had turned
ahp on and left it running.  That was about
when I emailed my reply to you right below
this one - maybe 20 minutes ago.  Well, ahp
has again crashed and left me with the
windows crash box.  Here is the info from
that box:

AppName: activehm.exe    AppVer: 3.0.0.201
ModName: ahp.dll
ModVer: 3.0.0.201    Offset: 00159818

I have the file
\docs....temp\76bb_appcompat.txt available to
email if you with all the system info and
crash details if you would like it - email me
and ask for it if you think it of value.

Perhaps this info is valuable also:
Besides ahp being ver 3.201, smart macros & I
wintess installed also.  Iwitness is set to
take snapshots automatically every 30
seconds, and still & 20sec video on command
from sensors.  It does not seem to matter if
I have a camera view window open or not, or
if I have ahp minimized or not.  The curchunk
sound of a snapshot every 30 seconds goes off
while not crashed.

X10Pro: I'd like to suggest that you post for
everyone to see some way of getting AHP to
produce detailed error log information.  So
far everyone has been complaining about how
there is no real way to get the application
to produce information about why it crashes.
There MUST be some way to turn on an error log.

Please Help X10, or tell me what is wrong. i will give you any info available, just tell me what you need. I at one time was very hipe on X10 products but now i have begun to have a totally different attitude. ???

AHP Update Causing Problems - again!
« Reply #13 on: March 05, 2006, 12:28:54 AM »

#1: I also found a problem with random triggers not finishing or not starting since the 3.201 update.
short fix: for now I leave AHP closed and run just my CM15A, working for 6 days now. (possible AHP double commands with CM15A?)
#2: I also see a problem occurring with video recording (PC Mode) that could also cause Myhouse problem.
short fix: for now I disabled PC video recording from my macros, I saw that it could be a multiple trigger that is confusing / crashing AHP before this latest update and have since not tried again. Kind of sucks if you are not recording using UX23A as a backup recording device until PC Video recording is working reliable.

I would wonder if the Video recording problem would still occur with only one on and off command, used with a flag as not to double trigger it within the same timeframe as a 1st trigger occurred. stopping the ability of 2 or more triggers being set off at once.
I sent an email a few times now and X10 is definitely trying to solve this problem as a first priority and I personally hope it will be solved soon as that is a major selling feature. If there is any info or something to try to help X10 solve these issues, please let us know so we can flood you with helpful information.
