Decode x10.log file from AH
« on: February 22, 2006, 09:21:39 PM »

Can anyone help me decode the x10.log file  form Active Home?  I can read the communications log file from within the AH software but would like to  save the contents to Excel or other file to  store and possibly read from another source.
When I open x10.log with Word or notepad, if is unreadable.

Thanks,  Michael

I assume you mean the original ActiveHome, and not ActiveHome Pro? You can use the log decoder here:

ftp://ftp.x10.com/pub/applications/activehome/x10log.exe

Yes, the original ActiveHome.
I tired it and the results scroll by so fast that I can't read them with my large x10.log.
is there a way to save the results to a text or excel file?
Thanks for the response.

It's been a long time but if I recall correctly, x10log.exe is run in a command prompt window.

If so, you should be able to redirect the output to a text file, i.e.:
C:\x10log.exe   >  mylogfile.txt

 -or -
C:\x10log.exe  logfilename  > mylogfile.txt
if you have to supply the name of the logfile as a parameter (I forget).

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

Charles,
Thanks for the reply.
The way x10log.exe works now is that a screen opens up and you are asked to drag the log file onto the screen and the program then automatically decodes the log file as the results scroll by the screen.
I can't seem to scroll up or down after this run.  I can only see the first page of the decoded results.
I suppose I could try to break my log file up into pieces, but I still can't copy or redirect it to another file.

It acts the same whether ran from the prompt mode or just opened (executed) from the folder.
I can't seem to copy or redirect the output.

If this helps jog your memory, I would appreciate any other comments on how it works.
Thanks,
Michael
