AHP does not know when I manually turn on of off
« on: April 22, 2006, 12:49:58 PM »

Hi,
When I manually turn on or off a light from a WS467 module AHP does not update its status. Is there a way for AHP to detect the status of anything that was triggered manually ?

Thanks

I suspect it's the problem of X10 Network Services (X10Nets.exe) comminication to AHP, a known bug that X10 is working to correct.  AHP will refuse to display module status at times, and always at others.

If you're referring to when you push the local button on the switch to turn it on and off, then no.
I don't believe an X10 signal is even sent for AHP to be able to detect.

The WS467 is not a two way device. It can not send a powerline signal back to the interface; so it know; the WS467s  status has changed.

Well
I am trying to understand the logic here and I must say that I am a bit confused...
I have a switch box MC466 and I configured each switches to run a macro defined in AHP and this is working fine.
I am trying to use WS467 in the same way but it doesn't work.  Further testing made me realized that if I turn the switch on manually, AHP doesn't see it which bings me back to my first post...

Basically, I have a macro set to turn all of my inside lights off and I would like to have the nearest switch from my bedroom activate this macro.

The idea is very simple, but my experimenting is very confusing...!

I think your confusion stems from a misunderstanding.
X10 devices basically fall in 1 of 3 categories:
  • Transmit only eg. A controller box
  • Receive only eg. Your WS467 switch
  • Two way device - transmits & receives
The WS467 only receives and responds to its set code. It does not  send any X10 signal when you push it's button. This means there is no way for AHP or any other device to know when you've pressed its button.
There are remote RF switches such as the SS13A-C that can be stuck anywhere that may work for you. My experience with them is that they seem to have a short range. (At least that batch I got does.)

Both steven r and Brian H are correct and the problem is that the WS467 is not a 2-way module (not to be confused with a 3-way switch which is something totally different).  X10 doesn't currently make any 2-way wall switches (only 2-way plug-in modules), but there are third party 2-way wall switches made by SmartHome, Leviton and ACT.  These tend to be quite expensive though and have their own pros and cons.
