Although the knowlegde base says it will, the Vanguard software (http://gate.x10.com) apparently will not work through a corporate firewall. After an hour long call to tech support, I was told that a certain port needed to be opened in order for Internet Explorer to download the ActiveX control. I asked if I could download the control seperately and was told no. Why is this? Why can't I download the control and install it through IE locally? I relied on the knowledge base information when making this purchase. Is the information really incorrect or is this a tech support issue?

Update: Yesterday I had a friend of mine on a non-corporate (cable) connection try to access http://gate.x10.com. Before accessing the site he made sure that ALL ACTIVEX SECURITY OPTIONS WERE SET AS PROMPT OR ENABLED. He then tried to access the site, and had the same isue that I had through my corporate network. The ActiveX control never appeared to download, and the site page stayed black with a red X in the corner.

PLEASE NOTE: In the IE browser at the bottom, an icon appears that looks like a gear wheel. The icon only shows up when trying to access http://gate.x10.com. THE ICON HAS A YELLOW EXCLAMATION POINT ON TOP OF IT.  Double-clicking the icon brings up a MANAGE ADD-ONS DIALOG BOX. There are no X-10 add-ons listed, and there doesn't appear to be any issues at all, at least according to this dialog box. The add-ons listed are:
  • Research
  • Send to Bluetooth
  • Sun Java Console
  • Windows Messenger
ALL OF THE ABOVE ADD-INS ARE ENABLED AND APPEAR TO BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. Again, I don't understand why the Add-ins icon and exclamation point are showing up. In any case, I am unable to access the site.

I can see my Sentinel camera on (http://gate.x10.com) from my 2nd computer attached to my router LAN setup :)  but the image is not visible from any other computers outside my house. :(  Is my image actually on the X10 server or am I being fooled by my router LAN? I thought that if it is an http:// address it has to be on the internet. The fps is good, but is it Online?

We really need the blanks filled in a bit better..

What software are you using?
What resolution are you set at?
What is your current fps?
What is the current quality setting?
What type of Internet connection  do you have? and what are the up/down speeds?

Is my image actually on the X10 server or am I being fooled by my router LAN

Do you mean image as in a still photo, or do you mean video?

If you are using Internet Control Center, it connects to an X10 server on the internet, the remote computer connects to the same X10 server and is feed the video from the home computer via the X10 server.
There can be alot of reasons you are NOT seeing anything on the remote side, but to narrow down the possibilities you need to answer the previous questions for us.

be more specific please.[type of remote connection?]

There have been alot of complaints in the last couple of days regarding this, so please search those posts for more additional info.

bakerb:

AFAIK, there is no obvious way to manually install the ActiveX control.

What you might try, is have your friend temporarily disable his firewall and then try it. I do know it's working as I was able to get the connect window with ease.

I am unsure about the "X10 video reflector" as I'm not sure what this references. This may be a redirector of some kind. Have you tried remote access with this unchecked? Also, if it is unchecked, can you still view the cameras on your local computers?

I am unable to establish a connection with gate.x10.com, for some reason, so I cannot do a check from this end. Sorry ???

Maybe someone else here, that has a working Vanguard Internet Control Center, can verify operation of you system?

Did you try the X10 Internet Connection test on the remote computers? Did they pass?

Wish I could figure out why the Vanguard ICC doesn't work on my system, but My House Online does ???

Same here. I can open IE at home and login via Remote User http://gate.x10.com but at work I can't. I was able to install the Active X Server at work and can now see the user interface, however, as soon as I try to connect, it bumps me off. It says "Online" for about 1 second and then immediately goes back to the red Connect button, so it obviously kicked me off for some reason. I just tried a remote user login at home before I left for work and fully expected to be able to login, but I can't.

Will Vanguard Control Center work with my firewall or proxy server? How?

You can use Vanguard Control Center with a firewall or proxy server with no problems. If you can surf the Web, the Vanguard remote connection should work just fine.

This does not appear to be the case. I wonder why. It would seem to me if you can connect to any other server, you should be able to connect to the gate.x10 server and hence the Vanguard server that's running in your house.

I see the X10 video class active X server in the manage add ons. Interesting, it's listed as (Not verified) X10 Wireless Technology Inc. I wonder if the problem is that even though the Active X is installed, it's not working because it's not verified. Is there a verified copy of this control? Does it need a certificate or something?

http://www.spywaredata.com/spyware/malware/xvidn.dll.php
Does the corporate firewall think this may be a threat and therefore is sort of blocking it. Would explain being able to connect with Video Reflection off.
