FLASH lights on multiple Houst Codes
« on: October 27, 2004, 01:04:54 PM »

I've have a Protector Plus (DS7000)
Security system installed.
I also use Active Home, I use several house
codes for diffrent areas in and around my
home. I use 'F' for my main floor, 'B' for
my basement and 'O' for outdoor lighting.
I have the DS7000 set to House Code 'F'.
When an alarm is triggered, all lights
on 'F' will flash,
I would like to also "FLASH" lights on
other House/Unit codes (ie: 'O').

Let me know if there is a way to do this.

It seems that there should be a way to
program a macro to do as you're saying, but
there may also be a hardware way to do this
with current X-10 products. If there are low
voltage terminals on the base unit that can
be accessed, you could order a PowerFlash
Interface (PUM01) to do as you want. It has
low-voltage terminals that can be used to
trigger an X-10 power-line signal, and can
be selected that the resultant signal be an
on/off one. I'm going to research this more
and see what I can figure-out. I've got that
same alarm system, but haven't had a chance
to install it, yet, so I am still a little
unfamiliar with it.
I thought I had a way to trigger an X-10
power-line event with this and another x-10
device, but it was going to end-up being a
Rube Goldberg contraption. However, it would
have worked and would have translated an X-
10 power-line event from one house code into
an X-10 power-line command on a different
house code, and would have flashed those
lights without the use of ActiveHome.

Thanks Kenneth Herring,
I've tried several macro's in AHP triggered
by default (on the DS7000) to FLASH lights
on other HC's, but without success. It may
be a problem w/AHP, since it still has a
few bugs...

Hey, RandyB.
My thoughts on my Rube Goldberg device was
to take a Universal Module (PUM01) and
address it to the address that get's
activated by the alarm. Then, incorporate an
AC adapter putting out between 6-12 volts.
Use this low voltage to trigger a PowerFlash
Interface (PSC01) and address it to
whichever house and unit code you want to
activate and switch it to flash those
lights. This should be a hardware way to do
what you want, I think, although you've got
to spend money on something the software
should be able to do.

I have been trying the same thing. From what
i have seen the activehome software can see
signals sent though the air or over the
house wiring. It will only start a macro if
the signal is received over the air. It they
would add a feature to start macros from
signals it received over house wiring also
we would be able to do a lot more with the
system.
