Title: New Switchlinc 2383 will not ramp
Post by: ramoats on March 24, 2021, 01:29:22 PM
Hello ... new to the forum, thanks for the add. I'm long time x10 user. I had a Switchlinc 2384 master in my kitchen light circuit with 2 slave switches. The master finally failed (micro switch issue) I found a new Switchlinc 2383 on Ebay... same exact 4 wire install, side ramp led indicator, etc. I replaced the old switch, duplicating the original hookup .. The new switch accepts the Home and Unit Code, operates remotely ok .. but will not ramp up or down (dim), it is just an on off switch. I reset it to factory settings by pulling out the led button and following the procedure, reset the addresses, but no ramping. I also took the step of removing all dimmable LED bulbs from the circuit and put in a few incandescent, but it made no difference. I'm beginning to suspect I bought a bad switch. Any ideas what might be the issue here ? Thanks in advance

The description I found on the net. Indicated it does not have the ability to dim or send dim commands.
You may want to see what a search engine find for a Switchlinc 2383.
The manual also does not say anything about dimming.
I found an archived X10 compatible Switchlinc features page. Soft Start and Resume Dim are not supported in a 2383.

Here is the 2383 and 2384 manuals links.

Great Help Here....

If a 2476D will do the job I have several New-In-Box units.  It's an Insteon device that also does X10.

The 2384 and 2383 use a 2382 companion switch to control it on the yellow traveler connection.
To use a 2476D. You would replace all of them with a 2476D. Wire power to each one. Put the same X10 address in all of them. Cap the red load wire in the companion modules locations.

Yes ... I have 2 2382s on my slave switches ... I think for now I'll wait and perhaps aquire a new 2384. Truth is I rarely used the ramp feature , it was just "cool" However, now that that switch sends out a zone signal I can perhaps use that to my advantage ...

Appreciate all of the help and advice...
