Title: Help understanding "componants" in X10 system.
Post by: grindy on January 04, 2011, 08:47:02 PM
Hi all,

I hope that this question is not too "stupid", but I have read a bunch of FAQ's and didn't find what I was looking for... so:

I'm going to install a ceiling vent fan and controll it remotely. I think the Leviton 6375 Fixture Relay sold by Smarthome is exactly what I need for this. They also sell a "Keychain Remote for 2 Devices" that says it is an X10 Remote Control (item 4004 at Smarthome).

My question is:  Are these 2 ALL that I need or do I also need some sort of "Access Point" also?

Thanks in advance

Not stupid at all boomer. Yes you need an "access point" more commonly called a "Transceiver" in the X10 world

You might also peruse X10.com. They may have a package deal less expensive than Smarthome.

Welcome to the forums.

The X10Pro model is the XPFM and is basically the same as the 6375.
Dave W covered the transceiver issue.

Thank you both !  I've now ordered the proper components and am on my way.  I'm sure I'll be "x10ing" more stuff in the future and will have more questions.
Cheers
