New Dangers with the newer CFLs

I know... I was poking fun. I don't know anyone who doesn't use the CFL's. Nor do I know anyone who (I believe) truly feels these CFL's are really a good thing to have around kids and pets (or even wifes for that matter)... with the Phosphors and Mercury.

Do you find the LEDs life span is woefully short of the 50,000 to 100,000 hrs I have seen manufactures project? Since white light LEDs use fluorescent phosphors I don't see how manufacturer's are projecting these extended life spans unless they are quoting the die life and not the light output.

I haven't had one die yet how ever I'm not one to leave lights on for long.
I do know they out live my old incandescent bulbs at least.
As for light output I haven't seen that reduce yet either but they are much less brighter to begin with :(
The brightness stated on the packaging is no where true to what I actually get.
