I have tested the latest BIOS update for the XX39A, and it is much better than the original BIOS.
THIS WILL ONLY WORK ON THE XX39A, WHICH IS LABELED XC39A ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CAMERA.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS UPDATE ON ANY OTHER MODEL.
Download this zip file and extract it. It contains 1 folder that contains 2 files.

1) Connect the camera using a wired network connection.
2) Enter the camera's web interface.
3) Select the "params setting" button. The hammer and wrench button in the upper right hand corner.
4) Select "system tool"
5) Press the update device software browse button, and navigate to the folder that contains the file. Press the start button.
6) After several minutes the camera will reboot. At this time, shut down the browser and log onto the camera again.
7) Repeat this procedure for the device's web UI.
Please let me know if any additional problems are found.

I already asked the factory for that information, and all they said was that they fixed the things that did not work - they could not provide any additional information.

Then I went to do the web user interface and now I can't talk to the camera - I only get "undefined" in a lot of fields on the interface log-in screen. I can attempt to admin into it, but nothing happens after I type the log-in and password. I have tried a power-cycle at the camera, then a paper-clip-inserted hard reset, but to no avail.
Now I have a dead camera, it seems, unless you can get me back into accessing it.

Thank you very much. I have 2 cameras that are both down now, and will e-mail you at support for an RMA. I hope you can get me two replacements quickly - but I am afraid to put any new firmware on them at this time.

#1 Does this update work or not as the poster has said it bricked :-\2 cameras. he may have made the same mistake twice but judging by your quality control I would be more likely to believe there is a problem with update.
#2 Are we forced to connect to camera via a hard wire to do this update ? I have 10 cameras all mounted and would require a scissor lift to connect back with a cable. Will the wireless cameras not work wirelessly well enough to update the firmware?

1 - I don't think that there is problem with the firmware. We have installed it on many units without any problems.
2 - The unit absolutely must be connected via a hard wired LAN connection to ensure that the unit is updated correctly.

I updated my camera with the new firmware. However, it was not at all obvious which file was for which update. When I went to choose the file it did not set the file filter to tell me which file to use.
The sound on the camera is still really bad. I hear a lot of loud static noise and other sounds come in very muffled.
I turned on the motion detection just to see if that still made the camera go crazy it seemed not to mess up the camera. I didn't fully test to see if it recorded anything though.

Here is exactly what I did - possibly to help you all:
My first camera had these issues out-of-the-box: Setting it up at a static, locked-down shot hung inside a living room picture window looking out, about 4-5 times per day, it would turn itself in and point to the hanging vertical blinds.
My camera hangs upside-down, so I active the mirror and "FLIP" commands. But with every change the camera self-made pointing back inside, the "flip" - while still remaining checked, was in fact not activated, so I had to un-check and re-check it to get the proper picture. The "mirror" apparently stuck and kept its setting.
At sunset, the OUTDOOR setting had problems setting the iris for light change. It would quickly pulse between open and shut - like a strobe light in a disco. A change to 60Hz and back to OUTDOOR would not solve it. I had to use the web browser control, last tab, System, and do a soft re-boot. Now I was set for overnight shots.
At sunrise, most times, the iris would be fine. But even then, the camera often turned itself back inside to the vertical blinds, so I had to turn it back to face outside, leaving me without coverage overnight.
If the camera did keep its shot pointed out to the courtyard and mailbox, the iris would often not be okay and the sun-light confused it like at sunset. This time, the cure was different: a 60Hz, and back to OUTDOOR reset would solve it; unlike at sunset, where a soft re-boot was the only cure.

On Camera #1:
I loaded the new firmware as specified at the SAME time as the new web browser, and both fields were available to do them at once. The camera then worked for a good 5-10 minutes. After that, the web access was full of "undefined" fields and I can't log back on again. But atleast I get the basic web user interface log-on screen, unlike ...
On newly-arrived Camera #2:
I thought maybe I shouldn't have loaded the web interface and camera firmware at the same time, even though the 2 empty fields seemed to allow it, so this time with Cam #2, I loaded the firmware first. That went okay. Then I clicked to load the web user interface - as instructed here by X10. The system (computer and web browser) seemed to be going through the motions, but in fact it had locked-up and never came back. After leaving it a few hours, I was forced to re-boot the camera, sticking a paper-clip into the rear hole, and after a power-cycle would not bring the camera back. Only then did the web browser report a non-responsive web page.
Now when I try to access the camera, unlike Camera #1, I get no response. The web browser times-out after 4 minutes stating that the 192. address is not responding.
X10 is allowing me to return both cameras, and I've ordered Camera #3 to start over.

Not true for me - it showed both the .aps and .apc for both fields, camera firmware and web user interface.

:( downloaded the latest and did upgrade on one of my cameras. Files downloaded and unzipped fine. followed your directions and unzipped, installed the host firmware first, rebooted, updated ui software,rebooted. while on wire could see and use camera. when I set to use wireless I did a search and it found my wep encrypted ap and correctly identified type of wep (open) and defaulted to key one. I put in correct key and saved. it rebooted and would never connect to ap. I tried an experiment and changed my ap to no encryption and tried the cameras using search function and it found the ap and connected ok. This is the first thing that is still NOT FIXED. Will continue to post as I test further. Did no one in tech support think to test this necessary requirement for wireless networking?

Had the same problem. With the help of tech support I changed my wireless encryption to wpa-2 aes, works fine now.

The wireless is very fragile if you ask me. Some days works OK, some days can't hold a connection. Forget about any real distance with it.
I'd like to see a fix for the stupid non automatic toggle of day/night outdoor mode too.

B:( Final entry about x10 cameras. I bought 10 of these cameras for simple surveillance. All 10 suffered from a host of problems. I contacted x10 and was told an update was coming. after 3 week wait we got this update and I installed it on all 10 cameras. After the update, 3 cameras went into continuous reboot mode, and 1 would no longer boot at all. I am done with this shoddy product and am convinced that all x10 products are of the same low quality. BTW they sent me the airpad 7" as a bonus and it was a POS also. I will say that after a 3 day argument with x10 they have agreed to take them back and refund my money. I'll see how that goes.

However other Camera is having 8.1.5.45 and 6.11.5.12 host and client versions respectively. This camera has all sorts of probloems already listed in this forum. Like keep rebboting when motion dettection is set etc.
So I download the firmware upgrade version file. Reset camera to default configuration and connected it to wired LAN. I browse to host file 803.1.5.55_b3_airsight.aps. However when I click start it gives Error "Open upgrade file Fail"
Kindly suggest how to resolve this problem and update firmware.

I've had 6-7 of these cameras and am waiting for the 2nd software revision to take care of resets, iris adjustment problems when mounted inside pointed out a window and the sunlight changes, and for adjustments to manually turn OFF the IR lights (so window reflection is eliminated).
For cameras that are working "fine," I believe you have them pointed only indoor and thus don't have SIGNIFICANT, CONSTANT lighting changes (like sunlight moving) to where the auto-iris gets confused and forces a reset (thereby pointing the camera elsewhere but where you want it to stay).
I am sure X10 is pushing the Chinese programmers to address this. The first firmware update did not cure everything.

Try to download the file again, perhaps the file did not download properly. Also, use internet explorer when you do the upgrade.

If you are stilling having problems, then I would think that you have a defective camera. Please let me know the order number and I will have an RA number issued.

I have watched the user video and can say that after the firmware update and 3 exchanges for new cameras that I have all of the same issues as in the video, except the purple color. The camera still moves by itself to a reset state. I have also taken support's advice and reset the camera by putting a paperclip end into the reset button and started from scratch on 3 cameras, but to no avail.
The programmers are wrong - the new firmware still has these problems, unfortunately.

I really hope this fixes some thing like being able to connect to it from a phone app. Like the foscam. I cannot believe they use active x that is such an old technology much better ways to do things now days. I mean unless you have IE or like using IE a lot of the features wont work right. I have been very tempted to send this thing back and buy a foscam.

This is absolutely the worst Camera I have ever purchased. I would highly advise No One to waste any money on this. the X39A has had nothing but issues since I first plugged it in. The latest Firmware did not resolve much either, although it is better than the original. IE will not work at all. You are forced to use Google Chrome only in Server Push Mode to get any configuration Dialog to work at all. Forget seeing this camera with from an IPHONE. No Normal Camera network apps support it even the ones that support the X36A i purchased as a Bundle with the X39A. Several Camera Application Vendors have tried to read the feed from this camera and all come back saying it is Unsupported even though they can see the X36A feed just fine and work well with it. The X39A wont even connect at all to an Iphone, so forget what the advertising says. X10 is a big Marketer, but in this case its all Hype!. Freight costs too much to bother sending it back and forth for replacements, so I am just chalking this one up as a waste of money and adding it to y Junk Heap. I am an experienced Network Engineer, and do not have much trouble working through many problem issues, but this camera isn't even Worth my time anymore. I spent hours on it and will give up. Somewhere down the road perhaps the engineers will get a new Firmware out that works, but for now. Go buy someone Else camera. Ill never buy another X10 Product again. Insteon all the way! Foscam or Airlink here I come! By the way It would be nice if anyone would post when they think Firmware may someday be available? You don't hear much because it sounds like they are still trying to convince themselves this camera is the greatest thing to sell since Sliced Bread! Well its not! Save your money and go elsewhere.

Did you forward all five ports for the camera, or just the web port? If you don't, you won't be able to view it properly. The cameras are awesome, the manuals suck. >!

I downloaded the new update for firmware and device web UI software and updated both in all cameras with wired connections. I realized that the device web UI software was incomplete (“undefined” fields and could not log in) in one of the cameras. This was consistent with what users were reporting in this forum discussion.
The “SearchIPCam” program (Ver 1.0.0.4) no longer “sees” the cameras but you can navigate to them in IE. There is an update to the "SearchIPCam" program (Ver 1.0.0.6) in the "download" section that seems to fix that issue. The “IPCamClient” program does not “see” them either and that is an important part of my application. Even if I put the information in manually, the cameras will still not connect via this program. There is an update for the "IPCamClient" too but even after removing the previous version (via their install program) and installing the update (Ver 1.9.0.24), it still doesn't "see" the cameras initially but started to work.
The "motion detection" feature triggering camera reboot also seems to be a lingering issue as is the loss of settings, especially motion detection.
Since the return for refund is only 21 days from point of purchase, I am returning all cameras for a full refund. I just don’t have the time to work through all of these anomalies. If you get an RMA during the 21 day period, you have 30 days to return the cameras, preserving your right to the full refund. Any deviation by X10 of this published policy would be a violation of numerous consumer protection laws.

it'll only tell you which is which in IE. other browsers show you both files
aps is camera
apc is web interface.
after the upgrade the wireless started working.

So are folks satisfied with the camera now with the newest firmware releases? Or should I still stay away? Any marketed features still malfunctioning or not functioning?

Device Client Version = 6.14.5.19
Device Host Version = 8.1.5.55
So, I hate to say it, but I'd stay away. The camera is functional as a security cam, but just that and nothing more (forget baby monitor for sure).
The advertising is sadly less than honest, you can NOT get full functionality with the camera via anything other than Windows 7 + Internet Explorer 9. I really feel this should be in big bold text on the cameras information page. Anyway, moving on, there is still a wide range of functionality issues, IE9/Win7 aside.
- Wireless networks to NOT show up after firmware update
- Wireless signal is VERY bad (camera is less than 20 ft from actual router, all other devices and other brands of wireless IP cam (**cough, Foscam, Cough cough) have no issues.
- Device randomly reboots. It's rebooted on it's own 10 times today alone, I verified this in the log. The reboots show up in the log as User=ROOT, DeviceIP=Device
I'm now far less than optimistic these issue will ever be solved. Looking at the timestamps on forum posts, it's clear that any change has been and will be SLOW to come. So in the mean time i'm only using this camera for non essential tasks and looking to sell it.
The Foscam FI9821W (http://foscam.us/products/foscam-fi9821w-megapixel-wireless-ip-camera.html) I received last week was only $10 more than this camera and WILDLY better. Seeing as the Airsight was my first ever IP Cam, I was so relieved when the Foscam showed up and just WORKED. My reaction: "Wow! So THIS is what an IPcam is suppose to feel like. Fun!". Android, Apple, Firefox, Chrome, yes.. even IE work, WITH SOUND. Camera image is fantastic, no random reboots. It's just clean, easy, reliable. and actually supported.
So this was my experience. You asked for it. There you go.

Earlier in this thread, someone posted the need to forward (5) ports. I've only forwarded the web port and the media port. What are the other (3) ports that need to be forwarded. I'm hoping this will resolve my issue with viewing my (2) xx39A's on the web.

I also got the "undefined" mention making the whole thing useless. BUT I found a solution. Both with Firefox and IE it seems to be impossible get anything but "undefined" . Otherwise, with Google Chrome everything gets back to NORMAL. That "undefined" is not related to the software but to the browser!

why are all the ftp links for x10 bad? I need the software for this exact camera, and the update and i cant get either. One file is available on their website but it isnt the searchIpCam soft.

The Links are all bad because X10 Wireless Technologies went bankrupt.
Authinix bought out the X10 line and had to move the X10WTI Servers.
Some didn't survive the move unharmed.
So for now most of the software is not available and may never be.
Also any program using the X10WTI Servers for remote access or video displays will also not be working.
I am not a camera user but there are folks here that are. They may have some third party software information to help you with your problem.

why are all the ftp links for x10 bad? I need the software for this exact camera, and the update and i cant get either. One file is available on their website but it isnt the searchIpCam soft.
The SearchIPCam can be found on the camera webpage as IPTool in the downloads for every camera X10 now sells this tool should work with any IP camera

I had asked about the possibility of firmware for the newer cameras working with the old Airsights but since they are made by a different manufacter now that doesn't seem likely.
I had also asked for camera software to be added to the x10 software page (for easy access). This was suppose to have been looked at but has yet to happen. B:(
Possibly because it is available on the camera sales pages and the CDs that are shipped with the new cameras.
