Title: AHP/BVC/Companion System Specs
Post by: hawk1 on January 28, 2009, 09:49:37 AM
I have a question about everybody's system specs.  I have a intel Pent 4 2ghz, 512mb ram, plenty of hard drive space, have XP Home, AHP, BVC.

The question is:  Are the specs above enough to run AHP and BVC?  I'm also using IWatchout for 8 cameras.

I have listners in BVC and after a while it stutters real bad (or cuts out). With this happening there is no way I could add PC Companion.  I looked at the memory usage and AHP looked like it was hogging all the memory.  80%

So I am just wondering if somethings wrong with my pc or software problem or do I need more Ram.  Thanks in advance.

AHP causes CPU  drainage on many systems ,the culprit (though I'm Guessing here) is the users virtual memory settings!
In Most cases AHP doesn't need to be running just having the CM15A connected works for most applications!
The main issue you have is your memory you need at least 1 gig!
Windows is eating up most of that 512 in fact that's the bare minimum Microsoft recommends for XP.
I always try to double what Microsoft recommends it saves on hair pulling! rofl

Thanks for the quick reply tuicemen!  I thought that might be the culprit.  I just kept on hearing of all of these programs working together but could never get them to work together.

I will try to get another stick of ram and try that.  Thanks again, youse guys are great!!!!

Memory is very cheep right now So I'd max out if you can!
Also look at the windows virtual memory setting
MyComputer/properties/advanced/performance options/advanced
Too high a setting will cause slow downs!
I have ran all three on a pentium II 700 with XP and 1 gig ram! ;)

I didn't know that BVC would work without AHP running!  I just tried it and it worked!!  Thanks for the tip!  I will try to get some more ram when the weather clears up.

I didn't know that BVC would work without AHP running!...
I believe AHP does need to to be installed, however.
Is that right, Bill?

steven r You are correct for the most part it is only needed to be installed if you wish to have macros or use the plug-ins!
Most SDK built Programs don't require AHP running or even  installed!

Quite correct!

BVC doesn't attempt to install any X10 drivers.  I assumed that since you had the X10 device and the software that came with it, the drivers would be there.  Plus, since BVC doesn't have any built-in macro functionality, it really needs AHP installed to get the most out of it.

AHP only needs to be running if your AHP macros are doing things that can't be run from the CM15A interface alone.

Some have said that AHP don't even need to be running for the PC controlled macros.....Just the PC on and plugged into the Cm15a???
I would think it does but haven't tried myself.

Anyone one do this or even know if its true?

It does need to be running to execute macros with windows command options in them! :(
