Attention X10 Fanatics: Beta Testers needed for ALL NEW X10 RF iconRemote!
That's right, guys - it's coming soon! X10 fans old and new have been demanding RF control on their iconRemotes for a long time. We’ve listened!
We're working on the test models right now and we need beta testers. You could be one of the first people to test the new X10 RF iconRemote.
In addition to the existing iconRemote features, this new remote will:
• Control X10 devices using a Transceiver (TM751) or ActiveHome (CM15A)
• Display X10 devices as favorites on LCD screen
• Set up 9 rooms and label them on LCD screen, with control of up to 99 devices in each room
• ALL ROOMS feature which allows you to access all X10 favorites at once
• Control X10 cameras, including the Vanguard & Sentinel Pan-Tilt-Zoom cameras - control all camera-specific commands
• Arm/Disarm your X10 Home Security System with the touch of a button (password protected)
• Create Macros of X10 commands (up to 100 steps!) and store them on hard keys, in favorites, etc.
• Use the X10 RF iconRemote with existing PowerMid and extend the range of existing remotes, use through media cabinet doors, in another room, etc.
THIS IS BIG NEWS!
We're looking for testers who use X10 products extensively, use X10 cameras (XCam, Vanguard, etc.), use X10 security systems, ActiveHome Macros or PowerMids!
We want to make this the best remote you have ever used and we need your help! For more information, respond to this post or contact us via email at: michaelm@x10.com with your name, email address, phone number, city/state & what X10 products you own.

I received a phone call.
Would it be safe to assume that everyone who is "in" also got such a call?
BTW, the beta test hasn't actually started yet.

I got a phone call too. Sent reply to email last month. Not heard anything here yet anyway.

If you're not already a beta-tester for this product, you most likely won't be.
At present, the beta-test is in progress and most likely nearing its end.
Being one of the lucky few allowed to beta-test this product, all I have to say is WOW!
Take the existing Icon remote, mate it with the X10 wireless transmitter in the Palm Pad (with better range), eliminate the need to fuss with the "code wheel" to control multiple house codes and then add the wireless transmitter from a Powermid for "through wall" control of your of your TV / VCR / Cable box, etc. (requires a Powermid receiver), and an "upgraded" user interface and you're just starting to get the picture!
As one beta-tester put it; "It is the one remote to rule them all!".
>!
-
Well there ya go then I guess. Glad you got to test it out. I will quit getting my hopes up.

Or, to paraphrase: "Houston....we have a winner".

hehehe Dave, you lucky rascal. I will buy a few of em anyway probably just because I like new stuff.

I don't know what the cost of the new IR 27A will be, but in my case, I will be purchasing several.
We have about 89 modules running the house, and I have Palm Pads with metal washers hot glued in the House Code wheel, scattered randomly about the house so I can switch house codes to control all the "main" modules. The problem is most of my brain juice has either dried up or leaked out, so who can remember the HC/UC of the 20-30 modules that I try and control on a regular basis using a Palm Pad(?).
This new IR27A is great, as it allows me create an "on screen" name for each module, an icon depicting what the module is controlling, and then segregate modules to rooms of the house. SA-WEET!!!
The situation of Palm Pads with washers, and printed Excel spreadsheets listing modules, module locations, module address, etc. scattered around the house is now obsolete. WAF is 20 dB higher. rofl

Not only is the Icon the BY FAR coolest best way to control X10..... it does TV's and stuff too!

Question: Will it control via a RR501 transiever? That's not listed in Brandon's original post announcing the ALL NEW X10 RF iconRemote!

Yes, it transmits X10 RF on the 310MHz channel used by TM751, RR501, and CM15A. It can also can transmit entertainment equipment commands on the same frequency the X10 Powermid System uses, so you can use it to control equipment in a closed door cabinet, etc.

Please folks, you cant do this to the rest of us. We are drooling with every word we read about how "Great" and "Sweet" "I would even buy two or more". I say KEEP TO YOUR SELF, If any of you have a drop of passion to all the newbies and such whom can only dream of that one day being able to open our freshly received package with our own remotes. So to avoid us having to resort contacting your wives to carry out some form of disciplinary act >*< of seperating you from your new remotes. Keep the comments short. No words of passion about your personal new attractions. Technical info only please or else.

PS. Does it come in a variety of skin colours ? rofl

BaBaLou,
Point well made. I am truly sorry for overstepping the bounds of polite and courteous geekness. And I have not been completely truthful in my exuberant accolades. Certain criticisms I have withheld, not wanting to jade the acceptance of the new ultimate remote.... I want you to know that I do have complaints about the unit. For example: I find the hue of the red color used on the "Quick Power Button", somewhat objectionable. rofl

about time somebody started talking about the thing. too bad Walt and I didn't get picked. at least we got some conversation started about it. that's what a beta test is all about. tell us about it.
-
Any indication as to when the drooling public can get thier hands on this thing? :'
-
