Intergrating Speakers for HA
« on: February 17, 2010, 01:02:51 PM »

Hello I have purchased both BVC as well as PC Companion, and I am trying to pull it all together. Bear with me please I am trying to understand. I would like to know Tuiceman how you were able to automate a speaker system. I have an Ademco LYNX-EN which interfaces with X10. when an alarm { or trouble etc} is triggered.  I have got it to turn on lights.  I would like to move twards playing a recording {or whatever would produce the voice} that would announce what I choose to program.  I have seen the ELK-120s they are quite pricey. I was hoping I already own what I need here between 3 computers networked and the few X10 devices I already have {LM465 Lamp modules,  TM751 tranceiver, and of course CM15A} I apologize ahead of time if this is not the right place to post, or forbid its been answered before on another string. {if it  has I was unable to locate it?} December began my X10 interest. I am also running 2 Everplex wired cameras, and a personal weather device. So you can see my situation trying to understand everything.

  Thank you for your time.

Note: I split this to it's own topic
I'm probably not the best person to be asking this question to! ;)
I use wireless speakers which are plugged into appliance modules these are turned off before the voice announcement and off after wards (prevents any static pick up)
Also Using X10dispatch or ihouse I'm able to play sound notifications from any PC in my network.

I'm sure others will chime in with more elaborate ways to tie all thirdparty software together with speakers.

As I'm not home right now I can't be 100% sure of the brand name.
I believe I got them from Walmart.
It may not be till next week before I can let you know the exact brand and model number.

I am using "Datawave" wireless speakers purchased from Electronic Goldmine surplus. Datawave is no longer in business. Last summer, E.G. did have some "shower model" Datawaves  for about $10 per speaker, but I don't know if they had any more of the transmitters. Sound quality is not really acceptable for music, unless you like AM radio. But work great for "This the voice of Home Control...." announcements.   :D

Audio Unlimited makes a set of 4 , RadioShak normally has them for around $150 ish sometimes they put the set of 2 on sale and you can get them for 60ish. You can also buy single speakers and add in as many as you want.
