Title: Help with weatheraloud and BVC please
Post by: jeffgee on March 21, 2011, 11:17:19 PM
Hi fellows. I am trying to get the local weather forcast to read via weatheraloud when I mash a button on a palm pad.(HR12A)(Trying to up the WAF) :'
I have setup a listener in BVC per Knightriders BVC/weatheraloud tutorial. BVC speaks the weather just fine any time I send an "on" command via the HR14A.
The problem is that weatheraloud refuses to write to the .wav file that BVC reads from once BVC has read it the first time. I seems as though BVC is keeping the file open after it reads it,thus preventing weatheraloud from writing to it again to update the forecast.Even if I turn my trigger on and then immediatly turn it off BVC plays the .wav file fine , but weatheraloud still will not update the file. When weatheraloud tries to write the current conditions to file I receive a "speak exception: OLE error 80030002" .
I have set a listener in BVC to trigger on K1, and play an audio file located at  C:\Users\Username\Documents\weatheraloud\MycitiesSummary.wav. I have setup weatheraloud to "read to file" located at C:\Users\Username\Documents\weatheraloud.
I also tried writing a simple macro to trigger K1 as a phantom module. The macro turned K1 on , waited 5 seconds then turned K1 back off, in an attempt to reclose the .wav file. BVC again read the forecast fine, but still seems to leave the file open.
Sorry if I have missed something obvious here, but this old man is perplexed. ???
I am running AHP(with all pugins),BVC, and weatheraloud on a desktop operating Vista ultimate.
Thanks so much for any help.
Jeff

OK... that all looks correct. Now... you also have to use the settings in weatheraloud to have the file written every 15 minutes... one hour... whatever. It it doesn't seem to want to work... just try re-doing the whole thing... pick another file location... and see what happens. Weather aloud isn't that user friendly. Knightriders instructions (http://wgjohns.com/forums/index.php?topic=29.msg118#msg118) are very good.

Is this with the newest version of BVC?  There might be a bug there.  I sadly have not upgraded my BVC to the version that uses a 3rd party media player to play sound files.

Hmm ,I think I am running the latest version of BVC.(0.3.0.0) Bummer if there is a bug. :-\
Dave, I have weatheraloud set to read the updated conditions to file every hour, which it does flawlessly untill BVC gets involved.
I will try pointing BVC and weatheraloud to a different folder. and give 'er another try. Thanks guy's.

Well, I tried pointing both programs to a simple desktop folder,re-setup the whole works, and still no-go.BVC seems to keep the file open untill I close and restart BVC. B:( I am thinking you are right Knightrider, might be buggy.
I purchased PCC to play with, I think it has a weather feature also. Might have to give that a go.

PCC does have a weather option.
It makes a wav file and text file on a forecast fetch.
If the bug is indeed in BVC and not weatheraloud you could always have PCC report the weather.
It can use the same voices and facesets as BVC. ;)

I haven't ether. Maybe I should have to help beta test.

I am sure... if this is the problem Bill can make the previous version available to you while he pounds out any newly found bug.

Thanks Tuiceman. The more I played with PCC last night, the more I LIKE IT! Not to take anything away from BVC, but man, your program is loaded with good stuff. I am going to start setting it up tonight, beginning with the weather feature.I have downloaded and printed your updated user guide.Great job on that.

Thanks for the complement!
PCC has over the years become a feature packed piece of software.
And through out I've kept BVC users in mind as I'm one my self!
I have never used Weatheraloud as it wouldn't work for users like me that live out side of the USA.

I can understand why not everyone is running the most up to date version of PCC! ::) :'
But running a old version of BCV, ??? come on guys it's not like Bill put this out yesterday! :(
If this is indeed a BVC bug it would have been caught with in days of the release.
And most likely been fixed by now!

First I've heard of this.

While I don't have Weather Aloud, I did have a BVC Listener play a .wav file and then deleted the file through Windows Explorer.  It didn't give me any grief like the file was still open or in use, etc.   ???

I'm running BVC 0.3.0.0 and Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit with Service Pack 2.

I'll keep experimenting.

Meanwhile, you might be better off having Weather Aloud write a text file and then have BVC read that.   ;)

Hi All,

From what I can find it appears to be a bug in the latest update with WeatherAloud.

Cheers,

It nice to see they finaly have suport for locations outside USA.
That's the main reason I added the weather option to PCC.

I read in WeatherAloud's forum that people have experienced the "speak exception: OLE error 80030002" due to their AntiVirus program scanning the WeatherAloud files as well as any added purchased voices.  I have excluded my AntiVirus program from scanning C:\Program Files\WeatherAloud as well as my BVC files under C:\Program Files and now I do not get the above error.  :)%

Hope this helps anyone that still get this error.

Cheers,
Nate

If anyone is still having issues with WeatherAloud and the "speak exception: OLE error 80030002" error.  I have also found another solution.  :)%

Simply create a batch file and copy this into the batch file and save:

@echo off
taskkill /F /IM WeatherAloud.exe
start " " "C:\Program Files\WeatherAloud\WeatherAloud.exe"

Then...
setup a schedule task to run the batch file every so often.

I called my batch file "Weather.bat" and have the Task Scheduler run the batch file every 3 hours.  What this does is:

1. Closes or ends WeatherAloud.exe even in error state
2. restarts WeatherAloud.exe

All of this is done automatically with the Task Scheduler in Windows and your batch file.

Hope this helps anyone that is still having the WeatherAloud error.

Cheers,
Nate

where do I find the weather aloud forum?  I emailed nextup a couple of months ago, and they said the dropped the program, but someone else tells me that some other company sells the program.
