Title: Can't UpDate
Post by: tom s on August 29, 2005, 08:03:58 AM
Now when I go to update I get a error
message saying that AHP must Shut down?
Also after @ 9 days I have to redownload to
my 115A or everything just stops working.
The batteries in the unit are fine.
Any Help, I'm getting totally Fustrated
with AHP and the 115A at this point!!!

I assume you mean CM15A, not 115A?  If so,
join the crowd.  SteveRF on this forum is
about the only one I'm aware of who has a
CM15A that works continuosly while
disconnected from the PC.  I've done
warranty exchanges, and went thru 3 units -
none worked properly (my CM11A worked near
flawlessly).  I have no confidence in X10's
ability to get the product working. Enjoy
your $50 paperweight ...

Arf1410 : you can add me to the small list
of users that have a working cm15a.

ARF,
Believe me ...my CM15A does in fact work
continuously 24/7 disconnected from the PC.
I run it from the utility room right next to
the passive coupler and it really does work
day in and day out for months and months
without any support.  As I have said in the
past, the only thing that fails
occassionally, is the CM's failure to respond
to 2 or more motion detector signals that
arrive at or near the same time.  I then have
to wait about 6-8 seconds for the MD to
recycle or manually push a button for the
lights.  That seems to be my only complaint
at the moment.  I was thinking about adding
cams but am not convinced of their video
quality yet.  One day it my all go haywire
but for now all seems to be well...  Diag

sorry to leave you out, tuicemen. I
certainly have no hard data to guess
whether 10% of the units are working "as
advertised", or 90%, and can only speculate
why some units work, and others don't.
Tuicemen - was it your first unit that
works well, or an exhcnage / replacement /
later diagnostic unit?  One thing that
makes me a bit suspicious of X10, is they
have never provided any feedback about what
was learned (if anything) from the
diagnostic units.   In fact, didn't really
seem to have mch interest in collecting the
data.  Maybe these diag. units really have
had some bugs fixed, bt due to the expense,
rather than a full recall, they only gave
them out to those that squeaked the
loudest?  I've got 1 unit left , one of the
original ones, and the 1 year warranty
expires in about a month.  I have so little
confidence in a replacement unit that I am
hesitant to invest $6 in the return postage
to get it replaced...maybe I'll give in.

I too must be one of the lucky ones. My unit
has been working fine for many  months. Mine
is connected to the computer but the
computer is not on 24/7.

Steve RF,

Glad to hear you and your family are safe.
The property, although a great loss, can
always be replaced. I spent a year in
Biloxi  in the late 60’s. I left two weeks
before the nasty hurricane hit in 1969.
Moved to California and shortly after
arriving got to experience an earthquake.
Life is can be challenging no mater where
one lives.

Glad that my CM15a is no longer a challenge.
I have close to 30% of the memory consumed
by programs and my unit is still running
virtually trouble free. On rare occasion I
have to remove the batteries and reset the
unit but this is always after some heavy
armature radio operation. I suspect that
some RF from my transmitter is getting into
the unit and causing problems. I never have
problems with the unit otherwise. I do have
some issues with the software but these are
slowly being resolved.

Knowing what I know today, I would still buy
this product.

what the heck, I'll spend another $6

Jim, Thanks for thoughts !

Arf, I sure hope you get a good one this
time..you have suffered long enough and I
really would not blame you for bailing out..

Hello everyone,
Back in mid August I had a look at the
schematics and surmised that the power
rails in the CM15A were not of high
quality.  Since then, I've added the
decoupling to my CM15A,  and it has
retained its sanity for the past couple of
weeks which is better that in the past.
The  components I added are 0.1uF 50V
capacitors  across the following
components:  U5: IN to COM  U5: OUT to COM
U2: pin 1 to pin 8  U1: pin 6 to pin 11  I
checked the signal coming from U4 and it
needs no additional filtering.  The base-
emitter junction of TR10 only see the
botton 0.7 volts of the AC line so any
noise on the waveform is filtered out.
The  data sheet for the microcontroller is
an  interesting read, it has the power-up
reset  circuit and watchdog that I observed
was  missing from the schematic of the
CM15A,  and Cypress confirmed for me that
they had  no issues in their database
regarding the  use of either of those
features.  If anyone has additional mods
they'd like  me to explore, pass them
along.  It's the  most fun I've had at work
in months.  Cheers.

Andre,
So how are the mods holding out ?
The caps you used are standard type not
electro type right ?   What ver is the CM15A
you are having trouble with... mine is 04J44
4 Mar.  Appreciate the feedback !

I saw your other thread post and that
answered my questions...
Thanks,

So back to the original message ... Why
does AHP shutdown with a Windoze error when
you try and update ... I've removed the
program ... re-installed it .. etc and it
still crashes when I update.  Mind you it
also crashes 50% of the time when I just
start up AHP.  It runs okay when
disconnected from the PC, but I'm unable to
download new information to the unit
because of the software crashes.

Martin,
Can you provide a bit more information
about your system environment?
Applications get shut down by windows
because they have entered into conflict
with something else that is in memory. Have
you tried systematically removing other
applications that are in your start up to
see if they have any effect on AHP? Almost
every computer environment is different so
it's impossible to venture a guess right
off the bat.

X10 provided me with a link to the Active
home update and after running it I'm now at
version 1.187 and everything is running
just fine.

Martin,
Good to hear the problems have gone away
with the newer version.  Check though, it
should be 3.187, not 1.187.
-- Andre'
Note to all:  The decoupling I added have
kept my CM15A sane for 3 weeks now.  I'd
venture to say that the problem is solved.

Andre,
Glad to hear your mods are still working.  I
may try it with my CM15A spare unit to see if
it could be resurrected.  How about teh
antenna mod ?  Are you considering it ?

SteveRF

Dear Wedepohl
I am studying his to paper “Frequency-
dependet transformation matrices for
untransposed Transmission Lines using
Newton-Raphson method.

I would like to apply the methodology
proposed of paper.

I want to find a program which calculates
the eigenvalues and eigenvector of a matrix
containing complex numbers. I want the
codes or algorithm to be written in MATLAB
or C.

I am working with impedance matrix in
frequency domain.
Could you please help me?

Hello Andre,
See the antenna mod here:
www.accessx10.com/howto_fconnector_page1.html
AccessX10 has a very nice forum and some
extra freebie programs like X10Dispatch.  I
use X10Dispatch to issue verbal notifications
of X10 events based on triggers received by
the CM15A.  Soon I will be using the same
program for some video stuff.   You will like
the site !
I have not started my antenna mod yet but
will within a week or so.

SteveRF
