Title: Detect my presence with wifi?
Post by: Dlwhitehouse on September 06, 2010, 07:50:10 PM
Does anyone know if there is function available to detect when I am home by detecting my mobile wifi presence ( I know the technology is available as there is an app for android phones that detects wifi presence and acts accordingly)

So I would like it to detect me personally then obviously act accordingly with some preset macro, or is there another way of doing this ?

Thanks

Let me make sure I understand.

You walk into the house with your Droid, or iPhone -- wifi enabled.
You'd like some device to detect the wifi signal and take some action?

I have no idea if there is an appliance, but I know how I'd do it with a DHCP server and Linux.
If that helps.

Currently BlueWatch doesn't watch wifi how ever it may in the future.

There is a program that does some network IP watching called Xping (http://larryo.org/work/information/x10ping/index.htm)
you may be able to get it to do what your after.
