Title: BVC Status and weather command
Post by: Glorfindel on August 10, 2011, 08:53:49 PM
I was curious in Dave's youtube video talking with Kate. He said something like command computer status and it said it was functioning within normal parameters. Was that really checking things or just a command for fun. Also I can't seem to find weather aloud and I was wondering if there is any other way to get the computer to speak the weather. Everytime I clicked download it brings me to a download page but weather aloud is not listed.

I added that little reply in my BVC setup just as part of the testing (IT doesn't really check anything... but allows ME to check IT). I got tied of asking for the time and switching lights on and off just to adjust speaker volume, speech training, and such. I also have one that when asked to "say hello" my Kate [Kate 16 bit voice] replies "Hello, and welcome the future of Home Automation". I use that to introduce someone to Kate (generally a kid) and I say this is Kate... Kate meet Jerry.... Say hello.

When people see the "talking computer controlled house".... they want to hear it say and do stuff. Lots of guys add cute little humorous things for the computer to say.... sorta like a demo.

I bought WeatherAloud at:  http://www.nextup.com/WeatherAloud/  (http://www.nextup.com/WeatherAloud/) Weather aloud ISN"T the most user friendly program. Knightrider posted great directions for setup of weather aloud at Bills BVC forum (http://wgjohns.com/forums/index.php). Also... I think Tuicemen may have a free program that does weather announcements.

Is there any other software that can do this besides weatherAloud?

Tuicemen created his weather software  after I had already purchased and was using what I have. So I haven't tried his software for weather. But you might want to check out Tuicemen own Web Site/forum as well:  http://tuicemen.com/forum/index.php?topic=157.msg545#msg545
