Title: Garagae door opening on its own
Post by: rltidd27 on December 24, 2006, 01:47:08 PM
I have had an X10 system in my garage to turn on the lights for approx. 18 months.  I use an outlet, with a motion sensor and transmitter to turn on the lights whenever motion is detected.  I have a plug in X10 switch to turn the lights on and off manually.
Now my garage door will open on its own, the switch will not operate the lights.  This is all at random and I do not know what the problem might be.
Anyone else had similar problems?
Thanks
Rici

Could you be a little more specific about what modules your using?  Like the model # of the switch and motion sensors and what not.  There are alot out there and it would help knowing which one you are using to troubleshoot your problem.  Someone correct me if I"m wrong, but don't some garage doors operated on the same frequency that x10 uses?  Perhaps that's why your garage door is opening and closing at random?

What are you trying to say?
Was the X10 lights working correctly for 18 months and then suddenly the garage door started opening on it's own, and the "plug in X10 switch" quit working? (what is a plug in X10 switch? Maxi or Mini Controller? or something else?). If so, unplug the X10 tranceiver the motion detector is using. Does the "plug in X10 switch" now control the lights properly? If so "hostilejava" has probably nailed it, and you may have outside RF interference causing the havoc.
