Title: How to control electrical operated window shutters

Hi,

I'm looking to a way of controlling my electrical window shutters. At present I have a two button switch for either lift or down the shutter.

I would like to know if the X10 system as a solution that can easely replace the switch, and start programming it (for example to open at certain hours...)

Right off the bat I would say yes its doable. Could you give us any more info on your system. Are the lift and lower buttons controling low voltage or 110 volts? Is it AC or DC voltages?

I agree with KDR in that it is doable. I'm not so sure that it will be a cheap project, however.

Do the shutters have an auto stop or do they just lift or down while you're pushing the buttons? i.e. You want to make sure a runaway X10 command doesn't have the shutters trying to lift for the sky.

First of all, thank you for your kind replies.

I still do not have a X-10 system installed. I control my lights thru a simple RF set, but I would consider installing a total system if I just could control the shutters! I’m particularly interested in having the shutters open as an wake-up system.

My power system is AC... 210v, you see I live in Portugal - Europe ;)

The switches function just like an ordinary light switch with two buttons. When you turn on the “down” switch it remains on the “on” position and the shutter goes down by it self. Eventually it stops when it closes completely.
Then if I press on the “up” switch, the “down” one goes to “off”, and the shutter goes up till is completely

Since you are not in the United States or Canada, X10 USA equipment cannot be used in Europe.

Try http://www.x10europe.com/   That site sells to England and Europe.

Are the switches connected to 220V or do they send an RF signal to the shutters?

For some reason the European site is much more well elaborated, and I quickly found what I was looking for. No need for complicated schemes with this:

Hey don't admit we don't have electric shutters! The Europeans might be reading this.
